National Terrier Club Championship Show 2nd
April 2022 Cairn Terriers, judge Mrs Julie Petts Firstly I would like to thank the committee of this club
for inviting me to judge Cairns at one of my favourite shows. Also thank you
to all the exhibitors who brought their dogs for me to judge, I had a most
enjoyable day, some dogs I have admired from ringside didn’t get top honours
today simply because of the quality of the entry. I genuinely felt I needed
more first prizes, so that is very encouraging for the future of our breed. On
the downside, there is more quality and quantity in the bitch classes, which
is worrying for stud dogs in the future. On the whole movement was good, a
handful had narrow fronts, I saw a couple of suspect mouths but they were in
the minority. Spec Beginners D/B - 3 entries. 1st Lund’s Lentrica Hocus Pocus by Jorvikairn Wheaten brindle bitch, strong head,
good stop, large teeth, neck flowing into shoulder, good topline and tail
set, held on the move. Double coat of correct texture, attentive to handler
at all times. Moved well, covering the ground & striding out. Could be a
bit more feminine. 2nd Hiam’s Carradine Dottie Very feminine dark brindle bitch, nice
neat correctly placed ears, good stop, large teeth, eyes slightly rounder
than the desired shape. Neck flowing in shoulder, good topline and tail set
on. Moved out well and showed for her owner, very good quality coat. Nice
feminine active little bitch. 3rd Metcalf-Sault’s Cannwood Quiet Reflections Minor Puppy Dog – 4 entries, 1 abs 1st Waugh’s Glenrood Galaxy at Tribannon (BPD) Grey brindle, well grown for his 6
& a half months, good proportions to his head, nice ear placement, large
teeth. Good front & rear movement, but a bit unsettled at times, this
will improve with age. His coat is short but of good texture. Nice round
feet, a promising young dog puppy. 2nd De Vries & Parker Tuckers Splinterhill’s
Real Black Devil Dark brindle boy, another baby at
just over 6 months, he was quite unsure but confidence will come in time,
nice head, good stop and nice ear placement, large teeth, excellent coat
texture, good topline nice tight feet. Moved well once settled. 3rd Hiam’s Carradine Arfa Pint TAF Puppy Dog – 3 entries 1st Shopland’s Cherrycrack Horatio Light red/wheaten boy, very
masculine, well up to size, coming up to 12 months old. Masculine head, good
stop, large teeth, shown in profuse double coat of correct texture. Moved
well around the ring, striding out, well-constructed dog, could just do with
a bit more enthusiasm at times, but when he shows himself off he is an eye
catching dog. 2nd Lucas’ Seveek Country Lad Grey brindle, 10 months old nice
masculine boy, good proportions to his head, large teeth, neck flows into level
topline with well set on tail. Difficult to assess his movement as owner
showed him on a tight lead, once advised to let him move more freely his
movement was ok. Well muscled quarters. Correct coat texture. Needs more
ringcraft, but liked his size and balance. 3rd Keeves’ Seveek Guilded Dream Junior Dog – NO ENTRIES Graduate Dog – 3 entries, 2 absent 1st Peers’ Tweedisle Charismatic Guy Wheaten dog with desired dark
points, good head proportions, large teeth, shown in excellent double coat of
correct texture, good topline and well set on tail, which he held on the
move. Moved round the ring with animation, good tight feet. Would prefer just
a bit more of him , and wasn’t always using his ears to his advantage. Post Graduate Dog – 1 entry Munday’s Lentrica Mystic Warrior Dark grey brindle boy, with very
masculine head, neat ears, large teeth, stop ok, more furnishings would
enhance his head. Harsh double coat, a bit short but correct texture. well muscled quarters, good topline and
tail set, moved and showed well, a bit more bend of stifle would give him
more drive at the rear. Never stopped showing for his owner. Limit Dog – 7 entries Hiam’s Carradine Podgy Paddie Grey brindle boy, not a big one but
he caught my eye straight away, gorgeous head, neat ears, good stop and large
teeth. Good forechest, level topline and well set on tail. Good bend of
stifle, muscled quarters. Double coat, neat feet. This boy never stopped
showing and he uses his ears well. Exuberant showman. 2nd Hogarty’s Cadagio Super Trouper Red boy, slight brindling, very
masculine, different type to first, gorgeous head, with neat ears, large
teeth, shown in excellent quality double coat of correct texture. Well muscled quarters. Another exuberant showman
who moved well both ways, level topline, he wasn’t always using his ears and
at times a bit proud of his tail, nevertheless a quality eye catching dog. 3rd Hughes’ Gyncairn Here Comes The Sun Res Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Come Dancing with
Macmoon Osw Jw VHC Peers’ Tweedisle Jaunty Lad Open Dog – 2 entries 1st Dennis, Goddard & Waits Good Times Ahead
with Oudenarde (DCC & BOS) Red brindle boy, very masculine in
all aspects, good stop, large teeth, well placed ears. Good forechest, double
coat of good texture. Neck flows into shoulder, good topline and tail set on.
Although a big dog, he is balanced and nothing exaggerated, his correct
construction shows in his movement. Moved with drive as he flowed round the
ring. Very attentive to owner. 2nd Firth’s Ch Cairngold Chico JW (RDCC) Red boy, smaller all round than
first but another well balanced dog, nothing exaggerated. Excellent stop, and
neat ears, good topline and well carried tail, shown in excellent double coat
of correct texture, neat feet, wasn’t always using his ears to full advantage
but moves well in front and from the rear. A worthy Champion. Veteran Dog – 1 entry 1st Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Dark Charmer for
Macmoon Sh.Cm VW (BV) Grey brindle boy, 8 years of age,
good proportions to his head, neat ears, good stop and teeth, neck flows into
shoulders, level topline and well set on tail, kept on the move. Nice
balanced dog, would prefer harsher coat. Animated showman, very attentive to
owner Minor Puppy Bitch – 6 entries, 2 absent 1st Felters & Rumens Birselaw Caol Ila (BPB
& BPIB) Red brindle feminine puppy, just 7
months old, confident for such a baby, good stop, large teeth, harsh double
coat, neat feet. Level topline and well set on tail, which she kept on the
move. Nice balanced outline, showed and moved well, very promising youngster.
2nd Inett & Harrison’s Carradine Precious
Pumpkin Pie Another very confident bitch puppy,
red with attractive dark points, good stop, nice ear placement, large teeth.
Short coat of correct texture, neat feet, level topline and good tail set.
Lovely balanced outline, moved round the ring with enthusiasm, another
promising youngster. 3rd Goud’s Breezy Kingussie Molly Connell Res Firth’s Birselaw Cora At Cairngold Puppy Bitch – 2 entries 1st Goud’s Breezy Kingussie Molly Connell Feminine little bitch puppy, dark
brindle just over 6 months of age, very much a baby, pretty head, good stop
and neat ears, large teeth, good topline and set on of tail, excellent double
coat of correct texture. Moved well in front, but a bit erratic at the rear,
this could improve with maturity. Showed well, very confident. 2nd Metcalf-Sault’s Cannwood Can’t Get Enough Cream bitch, different type to
first, feminine head, bit short of furnishings at present, dark eye, good
stop, large teeth. Good topline and tail set on, lost interest at times so
dropped her tail, moves very well from rear but pinning a bit at the front,
this might tighten up with maturity. New coat coming in, of correct harsh
texture. Nice balanced bitch. Junior Bitch – 4 entries 1st Waugh’s Glory Daze At Tribannon (BCC &
BOB) Gorgeous feminine cream bitch, her
head has perfect proportions, with good stop, neat correctly set ears, muzzle
length perfect for a bitch, large teeth. Good forechest and correct
shoulders, good length of neck flows into shoulder, level topline and well
set on tail. Double coat of correct texture. She flows around the ring,
moving out in front and driving from the rear, she didn’t stop showing. What
a pity she didn’t stay for Best in Show. 2nd Percy’s Winetta Frankly My Dear Wheaten bitch, with dark points,
nice shaped dark eye, large teeth, nice ear set. Shown in full coat of good
texture, level topline and well set on carrot tail, moved well in front and
with drive from the rear. She would benefit from losing a bit of weight as
her full coat made her look a bit stuffy which she certainly isn’t. attentive
to her owner, and showed very well. 3rd Osborn’s Tweslam Be Gin The Magic (AI) Res Keeves’ Seveek License To Dream Graduate Bitch – 3 entries, 1 absent 1st Osborn’s Tweslam Chasing Rainbows Dark brindle bitch, very feminine,

head, dark mask, dark eye of correct shape, neat ears. Shown in profuse double
coat of correct texture. This bitch is very well constructed, with level
topline, well set on tail, good shoulder placement and good bend of stifle,
allowing her to move freely and with drive. She shows well, to be hyper
critical she could be a bit more animated, with more sparkle she would have
been in contention for top honours, but no denying she is a quality bitch. 2nd Jobling’s Ariom Full of Sass Red bitch, another with a stunning
feminine head, with neat ears, good stop, large teeth, good forechest and
neck flowing in shoulders, level topline and well set on tail. Neat feet,
