Critique. Southern CTC Ch Show 6th February 2022

I would like to thank the committee of the Southern Cairn Terrier Club for inviting me to judge their show, also the hospitality shown. My stewards Sharon and Vanessa kept things running smoothly. Due to a covid appointment cancellation I hadn’t judged for a while so all were new dogs to me. I was thrilled with my entry and had lots of Cairns to go over. On the whole I was pleased with the quality, some coats could have been coarser. I only came across a couple of wayward mouths, stops were good as were forechests. A few years ago I was worried about our breed getting too big, but most of my entry were what I consider okay. I would always veer to smaller rather than larger, especially in bitches. Some younger males seemed up on leg, which can spoil the outline and balance of a Cairn, but hopefully they will mature and achieve that correct balance in time. As other judges have recently pointed out there is far more quality in bitches at the moment. Such a shame more boys aren’t kept and run on for the show ring.

MPD (3, 1 Abs)
1. Keeves’ Seveek Guilded Dream, 6m red baby. Good stop, bit immature, but moved and showed steady to win the class (Best Puppy Dog)
2. Saich’s Lindcoly Outta Sight Naf, 7m Wh Brindle, larger all round than 1 but less trained and ring ready. Coat in good condition, good eye, hopefully a good prospect.

PD (1)
1. Saich’s Lindcoly Outta Sight Naf,

JD (2)
1. Thomas’  Tom Trick’s Jocan Ty Cadno (Imp Swe). 18 month wheaten with those desirable dark points. Wonderful showman in excellent condition. Good head, eye & expression. Correct tailset. Moved with drive. Hard to resist. Well deserved CC, his 4th and his last day in Junior. (DCC, RBIS & BOS)
2. Morley’s Kanawha Spy Man. 14month Wh Brindle, still a rangy teenager who needs to mature. Coat in good condition.

MD (2)
1.
Saich’s Lindcoly Outta Sight Naf
2. Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Red Carne, 3yr old dark brindle, shown in good full coat, but not a happy boy today especially on the move, rallied a little at the end.

ND (2)
1. Peers’ Tweedisle Charismatic Guy. 2yr old light red, loved his expression, bedecked with desirable dark eye, mask and ears, steady on the move, would prefer more body. Topline and tailset ok.
2. Fanning’s Lindcoly The Great Oz. 18 month grey brindle at his 1st ever show for handler and exhibit. Nice head and expression. Balanced, good on the table but in need of ring craft.

UGD (3, 1 Abs)
1. Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Grey Borage. 3yr old wheaten with profuse coat and dark points. Moved well showing his level topline.
2. Coe’s Kimmi A Coestar. 2yr old wh brindle, not as showy as one. Good coat another new to showing. Managed to stand well with his tail up when being critiqued.
