Leeds CH Show---CAIRN TERRIERS

MY thanks to the committee for this appointment and my stewards for their competent help.

The last time I judged I commented on the poor heads that were evident in quite a number of exhibits..Unfortunately poor heads with hardly a stop are still with us .

This time I was concerned to find a few with lighter bone than is ideal for a Cairn terrier.Cairn bone is always medium. There were also a few with thin feet. They should be well padded and round.

Our ring was uneven in places and some had difficulty getting into their stride because of this. Also the grass was not as short as I would have liked. Some exhibits appeared lower to ground  and would  most probably have fared much better on shorter grass .

MPD(1)

Inett and Harrison's, Carradine Ayre Friar,Red br.in great coat and body condition.moved freely with a ground covering action though a trifle wide Good in eye mouth and ear position. Medium bone. BPD BPIB

JUNIOR DOG(2)

1stYates-Johnson's ,Pendley Seafarer.Red br of correct proportions, mischievous expression with typical head formation, good stop, ear position and mouth all correct. In ex body condition all round, parallel movement with ex extension, tail carried at the correct angle, topline aways firm.An accomplished showman who never stopped showing and gave a good performance in the terrier group.CC &BOB

2ndJONES &Arnold's Tycadno Tom Foolery,Cream dk pts,EX head and expression. in good coat of correct texture.Moved well keepng a level topline. Not Quite the parallel movement of 1st and a little heavier set.A quality exhibit--another good showman.

POST GRAD DOG(2)

1stLucas'Seveek Country Lad,gr br,with pleasing head and expression coat and condition all fine.Found the ground difficult to cope with at first but eventually got into his stride, showing a good topline on the move which is where he scored over the 2nd.dog

2ndPurvis'Mosspur Time and Again,gr br.pleasing in body but I would have liked a more pronounced stop.Covered the ground efficiently but did not carry himself as well on the move as the 1st

LIMIT DOG.(4)

1stParker-Tucker's Uniquecottage Grey Borage,Cr dk pts,Very good masculine head with everything correct.lovely expression, in ex coat of good texture,Moved with effortless action and held topline well.Considered for top honours.

2ndHiam's Carradine Arfa Pint, red br,a smaller dog of good proportions gd head and expression in great coat and body condition.Moved well keeping a level topline, well schooled and handled,an accomplished showman with lots to like. Not as mature as 1st.

3rdShannon and Storr and Middlehurst's Brendarcy IT's Magic(AI)

OPEN DOG(3)

1st Dennis,Goddard&Waites'CH Good Times Ahead with Oudenarde, upstanding ultra masculine red br,good typical head and expression.not in his best coat today but what was there was of good textureMoved effortlessly holding himself well on the move.parallel movement,Never stopped showing and commanded attention RCC

2ndShopland's Cherrycrack Horatio,CR dk pts beautiful male head with typical expression in great coat and condition.I have never seen this dog looking so well and on the go around he was initially my winner. He moved with an easy gait and carried his topline so well.Would have won the class if he had shown with more enthusiasm at the end.So disappointing.

3rdFelters and Rumens'CH Landbuck Kingman--an old favourite of mine not looking his best today.

VETERAN DOG(1)

1stLamb and Saltmarsh'sBirselaw DarknCharmer for Macmoon,dk br 9yrs old charming head ,Still enjoying showing and gave a good display on the move parallel action both ways and carrying his dead level topline well.BV

1st Wright's Brendarcy Spellbinding for Glenmonte,cr dk pts,8 mths very pretty puppy, at present very immature ,showed in snatches and as expected at this age ,out of coat.Handled With sympathy to get the best out of her.

Puppy BITCH.(3)

1st Shannon and Storr's Brendarcy Witches Promise, red br 8mths , litter sister to minor puppy bitch, nicely balanced and further on in her development, feminine in outlook, eyes, mouth and ear placement all correct,Carried herself well on the move, in between coats but correct in texture.BPB

2nd Inett and Harrison's Carradine Picadd Lily, red br, in very good condition coat and bodywise.feminine well formed head, a slightly rounder eye but this did not spoil her expression.fluent mover as was 3rd.3 promising puppies.

JUNIOR BITCH(6-1)

1stYate-Johnson's PendleySea Breeze, red br,one of the best heads of the day with a classic expressionBalanced good body construction.A born showgirl ,moved with style and purpose.Considered for the res c c.

2ndDennis and Waites' Svendalens Snow Drop, pretty cream who makes the most of herself, coat and condition all goodLooked fine in side gait but on the table I would have liked a slightly better tail set, this was not evident on the move.

3rd Parker -Tucker's Birselaw Floral Dancer at Uniqucottage, looked immature against the ones above

Post GRAD(2-1)

1stParker-Tucker's Sandrio Zinna of Uniquecottage gr br.,a lovely example of a Cairn, typical super head with an ex stop.correct bone and well padded feet.carries herself well and is a free mover. In good coat and condition.lacking concentration but when she gets her act together should do really well.

LIMIT BITCH(3)

1st Percy's Winetta Frankly my Dear,cr dk pts, another good example of the breed, took time to settle on the move but the further she went the better she movedPretty head, well balanced body in ex all round condition, lovely flow of neck into shoulders, strong  outline held well.Showed  well enough to win the res C C

3rd Saich's Lindcoly Ocean Dream.

OPEN  BITCH(4)

1st Firth's CH.Cairngold Chiquitita, red dk pts,one that I have judged and liked before but this time she was on her best behavior and moved in unison with her handler.Initially she found part of the ground difficult to cope with but eventually got into her easy stride.Mature, in balanced body of ex conformation, typical expression, another with a lovely flow of neck into shoulders, level topline and well carried tail Showed all out to win CC

2nd Felters and Rumens'Birselaw Caol Ila,dk br ,extrovert a slightly smaller example than 1st,Balanced body in good condition.Mouth, eye shape and colour, and ear position all correct.Although having the same sire as 1st very different in expression this one was more varminty. She moved out well in what was for her long grass which was not to her advantage.

3rd Inett, Harrison and Bateman's Precious Pumpkin Pie

VeteranBitch (1)

1st Percy's Winnetta I've Got a Feeling.dk br 7 yr old, typical head balanced body level topline in good coat and condition.gave a good performance.
