The Cairn Terrier Club Single Breed Championship Show held Sunday 31st March 2024

 Judge Mrs Julie Petts

Firstly I would like to thank the committee of this club for inviting me to judge Cairns at one of my favourite venues Also thank you to all the exhibitors who brought their dogs for me to judge, I had a most enjoyable day & despite the reduction in entries in recent years, I had some lovely quality dogs to go over. I didn’t find any suspect mouths, in fact teeth were one of the areas I feel have improved, I would have preferred a better stop in some exhibits and some would benefit from not carrying as much weight, but I was highly delighted with my main winners.

Veteran D/B - 3 entries.

1st Marchant’s Ch Winetta Quest for Fame BVIS

Dark brindle boy, excellent head, with neat correctly placed ears, good stop, in good body condition and correct quality double coat. Moving well once he got into his stride, a worthy Champion who I can’t believe is a Veteran. Not using his tail today at times.

2nd Smith’s Cannwood Misty Dawn at Gethlee BVB

Wheaten girl, with nice feminine head, good stop and neat well set ears. Excellent quality double coat, moves so well, good topline and tail set, very attentive to her owner.

3rd Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Dark Charmer for Macmoon Sh Cm VW

Minor Puppy Dog – 1 entry, 1 abs

Puppy Dog – 1 entry

1st Roberton’s Cornton Summer Special BPD

Light red boy, nicely balanced youngster, large teeth, neat ears, good length of neck flowing into shoulders, excellent double coat, good tight feet. not keeping his topline at times, and his movement needs to tighten up all round, but he has plenty of time to mature. Very promising young dog puppy.

Junior Dog – NO ENTRIES

Yearling Dog – 1 entry, 1 absent

Post Graduate Dog – 2 entries

1st Young’s Furythor Orion

Red brindle boy with excellent masculine head, dark mask, good stop, large teeth. Well sprung ribs, Good quality double coat of correct texture, would like a bit more harsh hair on legs. Good topline and tailset which he held on the move, moved with plenty of drive and responds well to his handler.

2nd Saich’s Lindcoly Outta Sight

Dark brindle, nicely balanced, large teeth, smaller mould than winner, lots to like about this boy but just lacked confidence at times. What coat he had was of correct texture but not in full coat. He wasn’t using his tail which spoilt his outline, has neat feet and harsh leg hair.

Limit Dog – 2 entries

1st Clarke’s Furythor Mr Bojangles by Lentrica DCC, RBIS & BOS

Grey Brindle, very masculine, large teeth, good stop and typical dark mask, using his ears well. Good forechest, well sprung ribs and supple loin. Correct texture double coat, in great body condition, well muscled quarters, topline and tailset held on the move. Showed so well for his owner, and couldn’t deny him the DCC which I later learned was his third. A worthy champion.

2nd Munday’s Lentrica Mystic Warrier

Dark grey brindle, masculine dog, large teeth, good ear placement, topline and tail set correct, held well on the move, has excellent quality harsh double coat, more up on the leg than first. Moved and showed steadily.

Open Dog – 2 entries

1st Jones & Arnold’s Tycadno Tom Foolery RDCC

Lovely headed light red dog, masculine throughout, good stop and good ears placement. Nice length of neck flowing into shoulder, correct texture double coat, topline and tailset held well on the move, wasn’t driving out at the rear at times, but attentive to owner & showed very well.

2nd Waugh’s Glenrood Galaxy at Tribannon

Red brindle boy, loved his head, neat ears, correct eye shape, large teeth. Good forechest, good length of neck flowing in shoulders, would have liked a bit better body condition, showed with enthusiasm but his movement was difficult to assess as his mind wasn’t on the job today. Double coat, topline and tailset ok.

Beginners Dog/Bitch – 3 entries

1st Young’s Furythor Orion

Same comments apply, winner of PGD

2nd Robertson’s Cornton Summer Special

Same comments apply, winner of PD

3rd Birselaw A Beautiful Dream

Feminine headed bitch, lovely dark eye of correct shape, good front movement good topline and tailset. Coat of correct texture but a bit short on hind legs. Moves close behind. Showed steadily.

Minor Puppy Bitch – 3 entries, 1 absent

1st Waites’ Svendalens Skye Lantern

Wheaten brindle bitch with gorgeous feminine head, neat ears, large teeth, shown in profuse double coat, moved steadily, using her tail well on the move but letting it drop when stood. Good topline, moved well in front, she could do to lose a bit of weight, this would improve her overall balance.

2nd Saich’s Lindcoly Just a Dream NAF

Red puppy, another with a nice feminine head, large teeth, correct textured double coat, lovely tight feet, good topline, tail set ok, lots to like about her and I’m sure that she will increase in confidence as she is just 6 months old. Not using her ears and again, letting her tail drop when stood. 2 lovely puppies, but very different types.

Puppy Bitch – 2 entries, 1 absent

1st Saich’s Lindcoly Singing Angela

Red bitch, pretty head, would prefer a better stop, large teeth. Good length of neck and nice shoulder placement, double coat of correct texture. Topline and tail good, moved well once she settled.

Junior Bitch – 1 entry

1st Shaw’s Tycadno Star Attraction at Honeyhall BCC & BIS/BPIS

Wheaten brindle girl, in my opinion she has the perfect proportions, she has an ultra feminine head but also the keen expression required of our breed, good stop, large teeth, correctly placed ears which she uses well. Good topline and tail set kept on the move, coat short but still a double coat of correct texture. She never stops showing and moves effortlessly round the ring, at one with the handler at all times. Couldn’t fault her movement today and she was handled to perfection.

Yearling Bitch – 1 entry

1st Saich’s Lindcoly Picture Perfect RBCC

Wheaten brindle bitch, pretty head, using her ears well, very large teeth. loved her size and shape, nice shoulder placement, good textured double coat, good topline and excellent tail set. Not co-operating with her handler at times, but in the challenge she got it together and this earned her the RBCC.

Post Graduate Bitch – 6 entries

1st Munday’s Furythor Marvel At Me

Dark Brindle bitch with ultra feminine head, good proportions, neat ears, good eye shape, large teeth, nice length of neck, excellent double coat of correct texture. Well set on tail and good topline which she kept on the move. Shows well and with enthusiasm.

2nd Smith’s Cloverbrook Shining Star Over Gethlee

Grey brindle bitch, had an excellent head, good stop, uses her ears well, she is a bigger bitch all round than first but still is feminine, her coat is short but of correct texture, she moves very well in front ,would just prefer her to drive out a bit more at the rear, but she covers the ground well. Good tailset and topline, very attentive to her handler.

3rd Dennis & Waites Svendalens Snow Drop

Res Waugh’s Dazzle Me at Tribannon

VHC Munro’s Birselaw A Beautiful Dream

Limit Bitch NO ENTRIES

Open Bitch – 3 Entries, 1 absent

1st Percy’s Ch Winetta Frankly My Dear

Wheaten bitch with dark points, Good stop, correct eye shape, large teeth good topline and tail set, shown in dense double coat of correct texture. Moving well in front and from the rear, good topline & neat carrot tail, considered for the RBCC but she just lost a bit of focus in the final line up.

2nd Saich’s Lindcoly Maleficent Mo

Another nice wheaten girl, feminine head, large teeth, neat ears and profuse coat of correct texture. Nice topline and tail set, moved well front and rear. Cooperating well with her handler.

THE CAIRN TERRIER CLUB - OPEN SHOW.                 31/3/2024

Judging at a breed club show is always an honour and privilege to experience, especially when the atmosphere is welcoming and decisions are taken in a sporting manner. Thank you to The Officers & Committee for the invite, and great hospitality and also to the exhibitors who brought their dogs today. My two stewards did sterling work in running things smoothly.

Puppy D (3-2abs) :

1 & B.P.D. Robertson’s Cornton Summer Special, pleasing in head shape with well set ears, holds an excellent level top line, has good depth of chest just needs ribs to spring with maturity, well set tail, correct feet, good front movement but slightly close in rear when moving.

Novice D (1) : 1 C Summer S

Limit D (3) :

1 & R.B.D. Monday’s Lentrica Mystic Warrior, up to size masculine dog both in head & body, in hard muscular condition & good body condition also, strength in muzzle & good dentition, well set ears & good eye set, well set in neck leading into good front, today was more together & settled in movement over 2nd

2     Saich’s Lindcoly Outta Sight , prefer the size of this dog but lost out on erratic movement today, very boisterous & full of himself, in good double coat well presented, good size head & pleasing in neck & shoulder, correctly set tail & carried well,

3     3 Lamb’s Birselaw Come Dancing With Macmoon OSW JW SHCEX SHCM

Open D (6-2 abs) : 1, B.D. & B.I.S. Clarke’s Further Mr Bojangles By Lentrica an easy winner for me today & delighted to find out later he had gained his title, worthy winner well done. Most lovely head shape with correct strong jaw, well defined stop, excellent eye & ear placement, lovely expression, in hard muscular condition & coat correct & presented to perfection, correct rib & excellent top line throughout, correctly sized feet fore & aft, sound free mover ;

2 Shannon & Storr’s  Bendarcy It’s Magic, has a good head & neck, prefer front of 1, has good body condition and is of a pleasing size for a male, strong quarters with well set hocks, good tail carriage, in profile preferred top line of 1.

 3 Waugh’s Glenrood Galaxy At Tribannon

Veteran D/B (4-1abs) :

1 & B.V. Marchant’s Ch Winetta Quest For Fame  on looking in my catalogue after judging I was not surprised to see this male has his title, presents a pleasing outline on stack and moves soundly fore & aft, correct tail length & set, double coat of correct texture & was well presented, well set hocks;

2 Lamb’s Birselaw Dark Charmer For Macmoon SH CM VW, a dog I have done well previously and still has excellent movement, full of life and showed himself well, has a good head shape with correct eye & ear placement, sadly is now beginning to lack body condition and also coat condition ;

3     Smith’s Canwood Misty Dawn At Gethlee

Sp. Owners D/B (1) :

1 Lamb’s Birselaw Dusty Miller, young male with strength of jaw, correct eye placement on a reasonable head, tail well set & of good length, correct sized feet fore & add, moved steady when got into his stride, coat had been clipped so texture was lost, hopefully in time this can be improved.

Sp. New Members (1) ; 1 B Dusty M

Beginners D/B (3) : 1 B Dusty M ; 2 C Summer S ; 3 Munro’s Birselaw A Beautiful Dream

Puppy B (4-2abs) :

1  Saich’s Lincoln Singing Angela very raw but is ultra feminine and thoroughly enjoying herself, liked her a lot and particularly good in her body shape & condition, very profuse double coat, correct feet & well set tail carried correctly, needs to develop in head but should have a pleasing future; 2 Dennis & Waite’s Sveddalens Skye Lantern longer cast body than 1, profuse double coat, quite mature in her body development, excellent strength of jaw & good dentition, steady mover striding with confidence.

Novice B (4) :  A good quality class

1 Saich’s Lindcoly Just A Dream just 6 months of age and another from this kennel who was so happy & full of confidence, shows great promise and her enthusiasm will be beneficial, feminine head but has strength in her jaw, correct skull with good ear placement, liked her shoulder set, forone so young moved very well to win this class & B.P.;

2 Smith’s Cloverbrook Shining Star Over Gethlee  correct size head with well set neck & front, prefer top line of 1, double coat, correct feet & tail set, needs to fill out in her body;

3 Gardiner’s Princess Nancy

Grad B (4) : ,

B.B. & R.B.I.S. Shannon & Storr’s Brenndarcy Witches Promise very nice bitch who scored highly in her movement over her competition today, pleasing head with well set eye & erect ears well placed, in good muscle tone & carrying just enough weight, has depth to her chest & her ribbing is well sprung, firm in top line, double coat of good texture, well set hocks she uses to drive on the move pushing her forward with free flowing action;

2 Dennis & Waite’s Svendalens Snow Drop, moved true but not the forward action of 1, sound rear action with well placed hocks, good in top line, had excellent texture in her top coat which is just coming through & profuse undercoat, carrying a little excess weight today ;

3 Waugh’s Dazzle Me At Tribannon

Limit B (2) :

1 Monday’s Furthor Marvel At Me not flashy in her showmanship but a very pleasing bitch who on first impressions her top line was not good in profile, I found this was not so when examining her and it was her coat colour & pattern, handy size with well proportioned head, correct in eye & ear, well set front & in excellent body condition & was well muscled, correct double coat of correct texture, moved with a free & easy stride but in challenge had lost her enthusiasm, good feet & tail ;

2 Jobling’s Ariom Full Of Sass slightly larger all through but balanced, correct in head shape with defined stop, correct eye & ear placement, double coat & has well set tail, better in rear movement than front.

Open B (5-2abs) :

1 & R.B.B. Saich’s Lindcoly Picture Perfect correct for size & in profile presents herself well unfortunately a little over enthusiastic at times and was not getting into her correct stride, good head balance, well set neck & shoulder placement was good, in just the right body condition & carrying correct amount of weight, in full double coat of good texture & was well presented;

2 Waugh’s Ch Glory Daze At Tribannon excellent headed bitch in excellent coat condition, has good muscular quarters with sound well set hocks, well set tail but was slightly longer than 1, has correct feet & showed herself well moving ;

3 Saich’s Lindcoly Maleficent Mo
