CAIRN TERRIER CLUBS SINGLE
BREED OPEN SHOW - SATURDAY 16TH JULY 2016 I
thoroughly enjoyed judging the Cairns at this open show which was hosted by
the Midland Cairn Terrier Club. There
was a friendly atmosphere, it was a lovely venue and the Officers and
Committee were very welcoming. There were enough dogs to make it interesting
and my main winners were, in my opinion, quality dogs who would hold their
own in most company. It was lovely to see some terrier temperament and
attitude on display which really does present the dogs to their best
advantage. Class 1 VEteran Dog or Bitch Entries: 5 Absentees: 1
1st Birselaw
Fable of Macmoon ShCm-Nice showy dog with a good temperament ,
DECENT coat, ok in head, a touch
narrow behind. Won the class on showmanship. 2nd Dandi Boy Spud-Decent sort. Good mover. Was a touch lethargic. Class 2 Minor
Puppy D Entries: 1
1st Winetta
What The Heck-Promising youngster. Good typy baby, nicely headed,
decent topline, good proportions. Will need to strengthen a bit in rear. Class 3 PUPPY DOG Entries:
2 Absentees: 1
1st BRENDARCY TINSOLDAT-Super type and could have coped with some
competition. He has lovely bone and substance, a decent coat for his age and
is very animated. Shows a lot of promise. His lovely rear won him the best puppy
dog award. Class 4 JUNIOR
DOG Entries:
2
1st TWEEDISLE TUGMAN-nice sort with a
good outline, coat coming through, was a bit unsettled. Nice headed boy. 2nd
SVENDALENS INTO MISCHIEF-heavier
sort and coat needs to improve. When he settled he looked a lot better. Class 5
MAIDEN DOG Entries:
0 Class
6 POST GRADUATE DOG Entries: 3 Absentees: 0 1st SEVEEK I SPIED THAT DREAM-the best
type in the class with a really good head and a lovely outline and
proportions. When he did settle his movement was good. Should have a decent
future. 2ND
GLENMONT NICODEMUS –nice looking
dog with a good jacket of good texture. Equally good proportions but does not
have the lovely head of the winner. Class
7 LIMIT DOG Entries: 3 1st BRENNDARCY LORD MARMADUKE AVEC
STRATHGARTEN-an eyecatcher and very much my sort of Cairn. Lovely outline and
proportions, really good head and expression, super topline, lovely tail and
all terrier in attitude. Coat still coming in and that was really the decider
between him and the best dog. Res dog and one for the future I would think. 2nd CARRADINE MY MATE MATTHEWS-nice sort,
well presented coat of good quality, a touch longer than the winner and not
quite the tailset of the winner but lots to like about him. Class
8 OPEN DOG Entries: 2 Absentees: 0 1st CH CARRADINE GEORGE FLIES WITH
HARKINLEIGH JW- another eyecatcher who caught my eye as soon as he came in,
well presented and handled to advantage, masculine, super proportions and
really good in profile standing and moving. Very typical head and expression.
Lovely front. A touch narrow behind but his overall quality took him through
to best dog and then to a well- deserved BIS. 2nd RENSHAW THERE AND BACK AGAIN UNDER
MACMOON SHCM –showy dog and a nice sort, good head, good coat and decent
texture. A bit lower to the ground than the winner. Class
9 SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG Entries: 2 Absentees: 0 1st
MIGHTY REARRAGER AT MOSSPUR-Was 3rd
in limit. In good coat and condition. A bit unsettled on the move but
deserved his placing here. 2ND

the veteran class. Coat was a touch sparse. Smart outline and showed well. Class
10 MINOR PUPPY BITCH Entries: 4 Absentees: 0 1ST
WINETTA I’VE GOT A FEELING-cracking

on the table, pretty head, decent tail set and her overall quality shone
through. Finished best puppy in show against some other nice puppies. 2ND
CANNWOOD MISTY DAWN AT GETHLEE-nice
sort, and another lovely type, a touch up on the leg and not as assured as
the winner but very promising. Class
11 PUPPY BITCH Entries: 3 Absentees: 0 1ST
BRENNDARCY CLOUDBUSTING-another
lovely type from this kennel, has substance but still retains her femininity,
good head, decent proportions, good topline and nice tailset. Moved quite
soundly. 2ND

between at the moment, not quite the bone or outline of the winner. Will look
better with maturity. Class

Critique on "Special Awards" Classes I would like to thank the Joint Cairn Terrier Clubs
for inviting me to judge the Special Award Classes at their open show. I would
also like to express my thanks on behalf of all new, and novice judges for
this excellent initiative which gave me the chance to go over some lovely
Cairns. Mostly I would like to thank the exhibitors for entering under me and
for accepting my decisions with such good grace. Puppy An excellent class full of lovely puppies. All of the puppies in this class were
promising and I’m sure they will do a lot of winning. 1.
Percy’s Winetta
I’ve Got A Feeling - 7 month old brindle bitch puppy. Excellent construction,
well angulated fore and aft, good top line, held on the move and good tail
set. Very nice head with good stop,
correct bite, lovely eyes and expression. Excellent coat. Moved very well,
close decision with second. 2.
Percy’s Winetta Wishin and Hopin - Another lovely 7 month
old brindle bitch puppy. The same comments as the winner apply. I just
preferred the head and expression of the winner. 3.
Canwood Misty Dawn At Gethlee Grad 1.
Firth’s Cairngold
Clementina - Brindle bitch. Nice for
size and balance, well-constructed, moved and showed well. She has a nice
head with lovely eyes and expression, good top line with correct tail set.
Good coat of correct texture. 2.
Seveek Country Sunset -
Red brindle bitch of a bigger build. Lovely head, deep stop, correct
bite. Strongly made with good bone. Preferred the size and balance of the
winner. 3.
Birselaw Dark Charmer. Open 1. Clarke’s Lentrica Dolly Daydeam JW - Wheaten bitch. She has a stunning head,
excellent coat, correct construction and was the best mover of the day. Her
movement was a joy to watch. She showed so well, always up on her toes and
alert. 2. Birselaw
Fable of Macmoon ShCM – Strongly made male with a lovely masculine head. Good
Bone and topline , coat of correct texture, showed and moved well. 3. Dandi Boy Spud Alison Waites |
