Midland Cairn Terrier Club

Single breed open show 6th March 2010

Judge: Maxine Bennett (Maximal)

Firstly my sincere thanks to the Midland Cairn Terrier Club Committee for giving me the opportunity to judge my first Breed Open Show.  I had a most enjoyable day at this well organised and friendly show and would like to thank all of the exhibitors who allowed me to judge their dogs.  In many classes the decision between the first and second places was very close and gave me a good deal to think about.

Veteran Dog or Bitch (1)

1  Seveek Country Rambler to Svendalens.  Dog, 8 years old shown in good condition with strong harsh coat.  Good head with clear stop, dark eye and well furnished.  Correct dentition.  Moved well driving from the rear, holding topline on the move.

Minor Puppy Dog (1, 1 abs)

Puppy Dog (3)

1  Landbuck Tillisch.  A well put together 10 month red puppy.  Lovely head with good stop giving a true cairn expression.  Correct dentition.  Good deep rib with nice lay of shoulders and level topline.  Tail well set on.  Great movement driving well from the rear and true in front.  Won this class on movement & expression.     Was pleased to give him Best Puppy in Show.

2  Carradine Crackaway Jack.   Another well put together puppy who showed throughout.  Nice head and expression, good mouth.  Good deep rib and lay of shoulders, excellent bone.  Shown in strong coat.  Moved well holding topline.  A close decision between 1 & 2 however I preferred the movement and head of 1.

3  Winetta Sir Percy

Junior Dog (4)

1  Brenndarcy Trouble at Mill.  A well turned out dog giving a good outline.  Strong male head with dark eye and correct ear placement.  Correct dentition. Moved the best in this class, driving from the rear.  Up on his toes showing well.

2  Tribannon Gypsy King at Crowneast.    A well balanced dog with good lay of shoulders.  Moved with drive holding topline.  Tail well set on.  Expressive head with dark markings.

3  Milindack What News Watson

Maiden Dog (1)

1 Roachdee Mystery of the Full Moon.  Wheaten dog with nice head giving a good expression with dark eye and good stop.  Moved along well holding his topline.

Novice Dog (2)

1  Mac Intouch.  Shown in good coat, a well muscled dog who drove well from the rear holding his top line.

2 Tweesdisle Stargazer.  Wheaten dog with nice head and expression.  Moved freely holding topline.

Postgraduate Dog (6, 1 abs)

1  Cannwood Zipper at Thackeston.  Grey brindle dog, excellent head with good stop, nice dark eye and correct dentition.  Lovely expression.  Good deep rib with well laid back shoulders and good bone.  Good length of neck.  Level topline and well set on tail.  Great movement, driving from the rear with straight front.  A well put together dog shown in good coat, smart but not overdone. Well up on his toes and enjoying showing off his true cairn spirit.  A very close decision between 1 & 2 as these were both two lovely dogs.  Continued showing throughout and earned a well deserved Best Dog and Best in Show.

2  Glenmear Marauder.  I was very taken with this dog who had so many good points.  Lovely head, good stop, correct dentition, great cairn expression.  Good construction with deep rib, lay of shoulders and bone.  Coat well presented and again not overdone.  A strong mover from the rear with great drive.  I felt he lacked some of the showmanship of 1 but was pleased to be able to award him Reserve Best Dog and Reserve Best in Show.

3  Carradine Maybe the Moon at Harkinleigh

Mid Limit Dog (5)

1  Spirebrook Dawn Raider.  Brindle dog, well presented showing a good outline.  Strong masculine head and expression.   Correct dentition.  Good lay of shoulders.  Correct length of neck.  Moved true front and rear.  Shown in good coat.

2  Strathgarten Crackerjack.  Wheaten brindle dog who had everything in the right place when I went over him.  Coat could have done with additional grooming to enhance his good points.  Moved well with drive.

3  Spawyche Elizabethan Onyx

Open Dog (2, 1 abs)

1  Cloverbrook Ray of Sunshine over Shearwater.  Quality dog who pushed hard for RBD.  Shown in good coat and well presented.  Correct length of neck.  Good cairn head with dark eye, correct ear placement & correct dentition.  Well muscled with good deep rib.  Moved true front and rear holding top line on the move.

Special Beginners Dog (3)

1  Seveek Country Rambler to Svendalens

2  Mosspur Licensed to Thrill.  Wheaten brindle dog with expressive head.  Presented a nice outline.  Shown in good coat.  Moved freely.

3  Tweesdisle Stargazer

Minor Puppy Bitch (5, 1 abs)

1  Cannwood One Moment in Time.   This was a super class of four new showgirls.  The winner was a 7 month old wheaten bitch.  Lovely expressive head shown off by dark points and dark eye, good stop and correct dentition.  In overall proportion with good length of leg.  Moved strongly with good drive from the rear.  A well turned out puppy who enjoyed showing although she looked so innocent!  Pleased to award her Best Puppy Bitch.

2  Tweedisle Fancy Free.  Wheaten brindle puppy with a good head and sweet puppy expression.  Shown in good coat.  Moved well for a young one but still needs time to settle.

3  Roachdee Treacle Bon Bon

Puppy Bitch (4, 1 abs)

1  Landbuck Scrumptious.  Well balanced bitch who showed throughout.  Presented in good coat.  Lovely feminine head and expression with correct dentition.  Well bodied with good lay of shoulders.  Another good mover with drive from rear and straight front.  Although 2 presented a more polished outline I preferred the movement of the winner.

2  Cannwood Remember Holly.  Wheaten bitch in good coat.  Feminine head with good stop and expression shown off by dark points. Correct dentition.  Straight front with good lay of shoulders.  Moved with drive.

3  Stryveling Polly Flinders

1  Doonrae Joie de Vivre.  A strong class of four good bitches.  The winner was a red brindle who presented a good overall outline.  Feminine head, with good stop and dark eye giving true expression.  Moved strongly from the rear holding topline.  A close decision between 1 & 2 however overall I preferred the head and expression on the winner.

Postgraduate Bitch (13, 3 abs)

1  Svendalens Crazy Diamond.  Another strong class of bitches.  The winner was a wheaten brindle with a beautiful head.  Wide skull, clear dark eye, good stop and correct dentition;  all brought together an innocent cairn expression which you knew mischief was hiding behind.  Well muscled body, deep rib and good lay of shoulders, good length of neck.  Moved freely around the ring holding topline.  Showed well with animation to win Reserve Best Bitch.

2  Cannwood Danish Affair.  I liked this lovely wheaten bitch who had a good head and expression. Well put together with good length of neck and lay of shoulders.  Well angulated and moved with drive from the rear.  Overall preferred the movement on 1.

1 Cloverbrook Xtra Factor.  A well balanced bitch who gave a lovely outline.  Good length of leg but well in proportion to back.  Good lay of shoulders and excellent front.  Good bone.  Lovely head with great expression.  Correct dentition.  A really good mover with strong rear drive.  Shown in a harsh coat, again well groomed but not overdone.  A lively showgirl who showed herself with much enthusiasm to win Best Bitch.

2  Carradine Sapphire at Spawyche.    Another lovely brindle bitch who had an expressive head with good stop and bite.  Eyes you could melt into.  Well balanced giving super overall outline.  Moved well front and rear.  Shown in good coat.   A close decision but I preferred the animation of 1.
