Midland Cairn Terrier Club. (Open)  16th July 2022

Shirland Village Hall. Shirland. Alfreton. Derbys.

Judge:   George Tullis.          Tele No.   0131 449 6600.

My thanks to committee of The Midland Cairn Terrier Club for allowing me the privilege to judge this show.  My thanks also to my ring stewards, Sue and Chris, who ensured everything ran smoothly.  Quite a few of the dogs lacked muscle in the rear end otherwise some very nice exhibits on show.

VETERAN DOG/BITCH   (2,0)

1st         Inett, Harrison, King & Leightons         CH Carradine George Flies with Harkinleigh (D)

A quality dog not showing any signs of his 8 years.  Very nice broad head with correct bite.  Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders.  Good deep ribs.  Well angulated rear which gave him the drive to get round the ring.   (BVIS)

2nd        Cullifords                                 Brenndarcy Maid in Heaven (B)

12 year old bitch with a decent head and mouth.  Good depth of rib.  Rear movement not as good as front.  Slow in covering the ground but this may have been due to the warm conditions.  Lacking coat.

MINOR PUPPY D/B                   NO ENTRIES

PUPPY D/B      (3,1)

1st         Hiams                                      Carradine Arfa Pint (D)

Quality puppy with a good head and correct dentition.  Good reach of neck into well laid shoulders.  Deep rib.  Decent length of back.  Well angulated all round moved well.  (BPD & BPIS)

2nd        Felters and Rumens                 Birslae Caol  Lla at Landbuck (B)

Another quality puppy with many of the attributes of the winner.  Not quite as mature as the winner in my opinion and not as settled on the move.  A bright future beckons for both puppies as the quality is there.  (BOSP)

JUNIOR DOG   (3,0)

1st         Lucas & Tobutts                       Seveek Country Lad

Very lively 13 month brindle dog. Nice head with ear and eye placement correct.  Good mouth with scissor bite.  Well angulated front and rear.  Good depth of rib.  Moved well but needs to tighten up in the rear end.

(RBD)

2nd        Petts                                        Doonrae Sentinel

Good head with correct dentition.  Shoulder placement could be better.  Good reach of neck  Deep rib nice length off back.  Moved well but a little tight in rear

POST GRADUATE DOG    (4,0)

1st        Binghams                                Carradine Bumbling Boris

Nice head with good ear and eye placement.  Correct mouth.  Nicely built front and rear with shoulders set correctly.  Nicely angulated rear end. Decent coat.  Covered the ground well when on the move.

2nd        Gardeners                                Svendalens Maybe Milo

Another nice dog who challenged hard for being top in this class.  Many of the same attributes as the winner but just though he was not as assured when moving .

LIMIT DOG   (2,0)

1st         Mundays                                  Lentrica Mystic Warrior

Judged this dog before.  Excellent head with good ear and eye placement.  Correct mouth.  Nicely built front and rear with shoulders set correctly.  Decent length of back and strong across the loin.  Coat in good order. Moved well.

2nd        Peers                                       Tweedisle Charismatic Guy

Good head with correct mouth.  Ears and eyes set correctly.  Good front angulation but a little to much front for me. Decent length of back.  Rear end could have better stifle angulation.  Coat in good order.  Moved ok.

OPEN DOG  (2,0)

1st         Hiams                                      Carradine Podgy Paddie

A lot to like with this dog and today was his for the top honours.  Good strong head with good mouth.  Nice front, good lay of shoulders into deep rib.    Good rear end, strong loin and well muscled.  Well angulated rear giving plenty of drive. Jacket in good order.  For me the correct size for a Cairn terrier. (BD & BIS)

2nd        Dennis's                       CH  Good Times Ahead with Oudenarde

This was also a dog of good quality.  Very good head with correct bite.  Correct ear and eye placement.  Correct shoulder and well angulated all round.  Coat in good order.  Moved well.  It came down to size to find the winner of this class and he is a bit on the big side for me.

JUNIOR BITCH   (2,0)

1st         Purvis's                        Springtime Rose at Mosspur

Very feminine looking bitch.  Good head with a nice expression from correctly set ears and eyes.  Correct mouth.  Good front, deep ribs.  Well angulated rear.  Needs more coat.

2nd        Keeves                         Seveek Peaches n Dreams

Decent head with correct mouth.  Nice reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Deep chest but a tad wide in front.  Well angulated rear but lacked muscle.

POST GRADUATE BITCH   (4,0.)

1st         Innet & Harrisons                     Carradine Wilma.

Good head and mouth.  Well placed ears and eyes.  Nice front.  Deep ribs. Decent length of back.  Well angulated all round allowing her to move freely round the ring. Coat in good order.

2nd        Lunds                                      Lentrica Hocus Pocus at Jorvikairn

Another nice bitch with decent head with correct bite.  Well placed shoulders into deep rib.  Good front.

Strong across loin and well angulated rear end.  Had a tendency to crab at times when on the move which cost her top spot..

LIMIT BITCH  (5,1)

1st         Shannons                    Doonrae Rebel Rebel Among Brenndarcy

Judged this bitch before.  Liked her then and again today. Lovely feminine head. Good mouth with correct dentition.  Good front and well laid shoulder.  Deep rib and well angulated rear.  Moved well covering the ground easily.  Still needs to calm it down for her handler at times which could cost her top honours?.

2nd        Mundays                      Lentrica Dolly Mixture at Carernwil

Good head and mouth.  Correct in the front. Good shoulder placement and deep rib.  Rear end is well angulated but a bit close.  Coat in good condition.  Moved OK.

OPEN BITCH   (4,0)

1st         Lunds                          Cairngold Brandy Snap by Jorvikan

Loved her head and expression.  Neat ears and well set eyes. Correct front carriage. Nice lay of shoulders..  Deep ribs with well angulated rear.  Coat in good order.  Moved well but was unsettled in the final challenge which cost her for top honours.  (BB & BOS & RBIS)

2nd        Batemans                     Carradine Fizz Bomb

This was another nice bitch.  Good head and dentition,  Slightly wide in front.  Shoulders correctly set into deep rib.  Very good rear carriage allowing her to move easily.  Preferred the head of the winner.

SPB D/B           (1,0)

1st         Metcalf Sault                Cannwood Can't Get Enough

Would have liked to see a stronger head.  Dentition was in order.  Good lay of shoulder into deep rib.  Correct length of back.  Good rear end angulation.  Moved well.  Coat needs addressing.
