Tuesday 16th September, 11am.

I have just heard that Fleur has passed away at home surrounded by her Family.  Wendy brought her home last Thursday when the Vet said there was no more he could do. Wendy gave Fleur many hours of tender loving care and tried her best to make her last days as comfortable as could be. I am sure you will all keep Wendy in your thoughts and prayers at this sad time.

Bulb Warning

Update

We have received the following dreadful news from Lynda Hughes.

Last Sunday one of Wendy Moseley’s bitches (who is 6wks in whelp) started to be sick. This carried on until Thursday when she was admitted into the vets very ill, she had done all the usual things like starve for 24hrs and then start with chicken but with no response. Wendy had been to the vets on Tuesday very concerned and the normal thing for the vet to say was “had she eaten anything” not to Wendy’s knowledge, Fleur was not a scavenger but Wendy went home to check the part of the garden where Fleur had been on Sunday. To Wendy’s horror she found a half eaten Hyacinth bulb, this had been dug out by the squirrels when they had been burying their nuts and yes this was the culprit!!!!!!!!!  Fleur is still in the vets on a drip and very very ill, the next 24hrs will tell us more. Yesterday morning the vet removed six dead puppies, they had been dead perhaps a couple of days but stood no chance of surviving “Toxic poisoning” Fleur had started bleeding so they had no choice but to go in. Her stomach is ulcerated and her liver and kidneys are showing damage all this as a result of a half eaten bulb!!!  Wendy would like everyone to be careful with any type of bulb, a dogs life is worth far more than a few weeks of pleasure of colour in the garden.

I am sure you will all keep Fleur and Wendy in your thoughts and I will keep you informed of any developments.

BULBS ARE POISONOUS TO DOGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

An update on Fleur,

Sunday evening she was still very ill and the vet went in for the second time and removed a small piece of placenta which had adhered  itself to her womb, hoping this would be another problem sorted out but no. After an appointment with the vets a decision was to be made at 4pm on Monday, by this time more blood tests were back and it showed “Pancreatitis”  as well as damage to the liver and kidneys. The senior vet wanted to give her another 12hrs and put her on a high dose of steroids, Wendy said yes and went home again distraught.

Today (Tuesday) a little improvement!!!!! Fleur is off the drip and drinking water on her own and has had a small amount of high protein pate and up to 6pm when I saw Wendy she had kept it down (fingers crossed) When Wendy went to see her today she wagged her tail when she saw Wendy. Fleur is still in intensive care and by no means out of the woods but what a difference 12hrs has made. As you can imagine Wendy is very upset she blames herself, but this could happen to any one of us. Please keep Fleur in your thoughts.
