NCTC Open

On 9 November 2003 the Netherlands' Cairn Terrier Club held its annual Open Club Show in Asperen. Sue Dolan and Bob Croyman were the judges. Sue judged puppy bitches, veteran bitches and all dog classes. Bob judged all bitch classes except puppy and veteran classes. 148 Cairns were entered, which was a record entry considering the entries over the last few years. Sue and Bob had to work hard as they had to dictate critiques for all Cairns. They were ably assisted by their Dutch steward teams organising both rings and writing all the critiques. A novelty at this club show was that 4 Cairns for each class were selected to come back for the final later in the day. This kept exhibitors more involved during the whole show as the winners became only known shortly before best dog, best bitch and best in show were selected. Sue and Bob also judged junior handler, brace and breed classes.

Dutch Cairn exhibitors and the judges enjoyed their day. There is, however, some room for improvement. The Cairns did not benefit from the slippery floor in the sports hall and rubber mats would be welcome.
