Southern Cairn Terrier Club
Open Show
Saturday 20 September 2003, Holyport Memorial Hall, Holyport,
Maidenhead
It was an honour to be invited to judge this show, my first
breed club appointment, and I would like to thank the Officers and Committee
for their kind hospitality. The overall
quality of the exhibits was good, particularly in the bitches, and in some
cases I had some very difficult decisions to make.
Minor Puppy Dog (6, 2abs). 1. Kinton’s Woodthorpe The Gambling Man. Dark red brindle with good quality
coat. Well-shaped head, though needs to
develop in foreface, good earset, dark eye, nice length of neck, level topline,
good angulation. Best mover in this
class. 2. Peers’ Tweedisle Time
Traveller. Well-grown red
brindle, in good coat, head well-furnished.
Good topline and tailset, nice angulation. 3. Confue’s
Anjofra Golf Bravo.
Puppy Dog (3) Birch’s
Kinkim Banuk. Grey brindle,
well up on the leg. Pleasing head, good
mouth. Well-placed shoulders, deep
ribs, level topline and correct tailset.
Needs to tighten in front.
Showed well. 2. Fairweather’s Ock Ross I’m
The Boss. Wh/gr brindle,
full of himself. Nice broad skull, keen
expression, good rear angulation but would prefer more length of leg. Coat on the blow. 3.
Laker’s Wizoz Rory.
Junior Dog (2,1) 1. Smith’s
Dorquette Epic. Red, not a large
dog but all in proportion. Good topline
and rear angulation. A little overawed
at first, but showed when settled.
Maiden Dog (1). 1. Dorquette
Epic.
Novice Dog (1). 1. Tweedisle
Time Traveller.
Undergraduate Dog (2). 1. Confue’s Anjofra Bang On The Door. Smart red in good coat. Broad skull with neat ears, good neck and
shoulders, level topline and correct tailset.
Moved a touch wide in front.
RBD. 2. Woodward’s Anjofra Desert Trouper. Light red, good coat coming through. Well-shaped head, good neck, shoulders and
ribs. Level topline and firm loin, good
bend of stifle, moved well.
Minor Limit Dog (2,1) 1. Ward’s
Vanajam Halloween. Outstanding
wheaten brindle, attractive dark points, profuse double coat. Sound and well-balanced with beautiful head
and alert expression, correct hazel eye, good mouth. Beautiful neck flowing into well-laid shoulders. Moved with purpose and drive and showed
well. BD/BOS.
Open Dog
(4, 1) 1. Kinton’s Woodthorpe Just Bedazzled. Light red, dark points. Well-balanced with nicely-shaped head, hazel
eye, good neck and topline which he held on the move. Best mover in this class.
2. Confue’s
Golf Papa Lima. Smart wheaten in
good coat and excellent condition. Head
of correct proportions, good neck and clean shoulders. Level topline, correct tailset and good bend
of stifle. 3. Matthews’ Dorquette Cracker.
Special Beginners Dog (2) 1. Anjofra Desert Trouper. 2. Wizoz Rory. Wheaten, pleasing head and expression, but unfortunately wouldn’t
settle and needs to lose some weight.
Veteran Dog or Bitch (6,3) 1. Dolan’s Glenrood Snow Pipit. Such a showgirl, tail never stopped wagging and she clearly
enjoyed her day out. Well-proportioned
though not large, most attractive head and expression. 2. Frost’s Penticharm Jasper Rocket. Wheaten with dark points, in good condition
for his age. Very pleasing head and
expression, moved well and used his tail well when he felt like it. 3. Castrey’s Casmhor Sweet Shona McLee.
Minor Puppy Bitch (8) A lovely class with many
promising youngsters. 1. Kinton’s Luck Be A Lady. Most attractive rich copper brindle,
mischievous expression. Head, neck,
shoulders and topline all as they should be, altogether a good outline. Moved a touch close behind, but a lovely
puppy. 2. Radford’s Skimmerton Silver
Sequel. Gr/wh brindle,
another very pretty bitch. Attractive
head and expression, good mouth, nice length of neck, well-placed
shoulders. Moved and showed well. 3. Confue’s Anjofra Golf Sierra Quebec.
Puppy Bitch (10,2) Another promising class.
1. Dolan’s
Glenrood Magic Solitaire. A puppy
with real attitude! Grey brindle, just
full of herself, obviously loved being in the ring. Most appealing head and expression with well-defined stop, good
mouth, plenty of bone, well-shaped ribs, lovely neck, shoulders and
topline. New jacket will complete the
picture. A born showgirl. 2. Poile’s Kedvaiy Pascali. Rich red in superb coat, with attractive,
well-proportioned head. Good topline,
firm loin, correct tailset, nice angulation, moved and showed well. 3. Carter’s Tarcret Silver Star.
Junior Bitch (6,1) 1. Grainger’s
Oudenarde Buffy’s Angel. Quality
dark grey brindle in lovely bloom with most attractive head and wicked, not to
say defiant, expression. Good stop,
length of neck, nicely sloping shoulders, good front, moved soundly when
settled. Full of personality and showed
with sparkle. RBB 2. Smee’s Oudenarde Belle Amour, silver
brindle, litter sister to 1 and very similar in type. Another lovely bitch, full of zest, splitting hairs, but just
preferred expression of 1. 3. Dolan’s Glenrood Dream
Pipit.
Maiden Bitch (1,1)
Novice Bitch (3,1) 1. Carter’s
Tarcret Look At Me Now. Gr/wh
brindle in good double coat. Pleasing
head, neck and topline, moved well.
2. Hewitt’s Vanajam Touch Of
Gold At Littleacorn. Wheaten
brindle with god front, neck and shoulders.
Firm loin, moved a little close behind.
Undergraduate Bitch (10,2) 1. Ward’s Vanajam Piewaket. Litter sister to BOS. Took my eye immediately. Most disarming and appealing quality grey
brindle, well-shaped head, well defined stop, good mouth, keenest of
expressions. Lovely neck flowing into
well-placed shoulders, level topline, firm loin, moved soundly and showed
beautifully. Everything in
harmony. BB/BIS. 2. Confue’s Anjofra Nutty Tart. Well-balanced light red with very attractive
and well-proportioned head. Good
topline, firm loin, and good angulation.
Moved a shade close behind. 3. Brown’s Bencana Magic Moment.
Minor Limit Bitch (3,1) 1. Dolan’s
Glenrood Forever Beauty. Pretty
wheaten bitch in good coat. Attractive
head with keen expression, very showy, front movement a little wayward
today. 2. Castrey’s Skimmerton
Symphony of Casmhor. Grey
brindle, larger type than 1 but well-balanced and well put-together. Moved OK, but not in the mood for showing
today.
Open Bitch (5,1) 1. Ward’s
Vanajam Trick-A-Treat. Another
top quality Cairn from this kennel and litter sister to BIS and BOS. Wheaten brindle enhanced by dark
points. Very attractive head and
expression, excellent mouth, most elegant neck, good shoulder placement and
straight front. Moved parallel front
and rear and showed well. 2. Dolan’s Glenrood Magic Berry. Attractive dark red brindle in good coat,
sound and well-constructed, keen expression, good mouth. Very happy in the ring and showed with
enthusiasm. 3. Kinton’s Woodthorpe Just The
Girl.
Special Beginners Bitch (4) 1. Tarcret Look At Me Now. 2. Skimmerton Symphony Of Casmhor. 3. Purvis’s Wilsummer Sea Lavender.
