THE SWEDISH CAIRN TERRIER CLUBS NATIONAL SHOW Saturday 16th July 2005
The Swedish Cairn Terrier Clubs National Show was held this year in the town of Hasselholm in the Skane region of southern Sweden. This whole show was organised and set up by the local board of only seven people! And what a wonderful job they did. Everything ran like clockwork and everybody I saw seemed to be enjoying the day. I was very honoured to be offered this appointment and was very pleased to accept it but also a bit nervous as this was my first time judging overseas so it was a whole new experience for me. Fortunately for me I had two brilliant ring stewards who helped me throughout the day. The puppies were judged by Kjell Carnbrand, Kennel Hickorys, who had an entry of 27 . BPIS was Hjohoo’s As Good As Hjo Are, a Ch Birselaw Billy Fury son, and RBPIS was Caroqs Tanita Tikaram. I was delighted with my entry of 99 dogs as I was told this was just 1 dog off the maximum the Swedish Kennel Club allow a judge to go over in one day. I did find that many of the dogs were well up to size and so were quite a few of the bitches. Some of the bigger bitches were also a shade heavy in bone for me, which could make them a bit doggy. On the whole though I was very impressed with the depth of quality in the Swedish Cairns and I would have to say that I believe they have a much better depth of quality in their males than we have in the UK at the moment. My Best Dog, certificate winner and BOS was Raskens Roll Of Honour, a good sized male, with a lovely masculine head, with lovely flowing lines. He was pushed very hard for BD by the 2nd BD who I later found out was a Larchlea import. Larchlea Love Me Tender (a Birselaw Billy Fury son) is a credit to his breeder Carole Templeton and when I was making my decision for BD it was only maturity that stopped this boy from being the overall winner. I’m sure when he is fully mature he will be a very hard dog to beat When placing my 5 best dogs 3 of the 5 were Raskens bred dogs, which probably accounts for them winning the Breeders group. In the bitches my Best Bitch and Best of Breed was SUCH DKUCH Hjohoo’s Hjour Loving Knock Me Off. This one I could have brought home. Such a feminine bitch of a good size, so well made throughout and to top it off a super showgirl who just stood there and defied you not to look at her. My 2nd BB, certificate winner and made up on the day was Raskins Rich Grey Lark. Another feminine bitch who won the very big Open class of 22 bitches. A lovely bitch to go over and very sound on the move.
