Yvonne Catto (Birselaw) Judges In Canada

The Cairn Terrier Club of Canada Specialty, held at Kitchener, Ontario.

BOB Ch Skerryvore Sterling At Emjade

BPIS Isla’s Fancy of Alancairn

Veteran Dog Class

Cairn Terrier Club of Canada 22-05-05

I really enjoyed my judging appointment in Canada and was very appreciative of the wonderful hospitably we received.

I found the Cairns to be of a very high quality, excellent heads and body shape, all very well presented, with good length of coat and not overtrimmed. They were of correct size for me. The Canadians will be using our Standard from the first of January next year but as they said it is just recognising what is in the ring at the moment, but it will be interesting to see how it will affect the Americans when they show in Canada, as they are staying with the old standard, which calls for smaller cairns.

The specials (Champions and Winners) had tremendous strength in depth and it was not an easy decision to pick BOB from this group of Cairns. This was Sullivan’s and Mair’s Ch Skerryvore Sterling At Emjade, a beautiful 2 year old male, full of presence, oozing type and quality (by Ch Skerryvore Dances With Wolves ex Ch Birselaw Bobby Jo)

BOS; Mair’s Ch Skerryvore Hogmanay Belle. 17month old bitch with lovely head and expression (by Ch Greatscot Hard To Be Humble ex Ch Skerryvore Bobby McGee).

Best of Winners and Winners bitch; Millward’s Feldspar Royal Stuart, 2year old bitch (by Holemill Rough Wooing ex Ch Feldspar’s Princess Royale)

Winner’s Dog, Mair’s Skerryvore Callum of the Pipes, 11month old male (by ch Skerryvore Dances with Wolves ex Ch Birselaw Billie Holiday)

Best Puppy and Reserve Winner’s bitch; Hunter’s Isla’s Fancy of Alancairn, 7month old bitch, this one I could have happily packed in my suitcase and taken home, a beautiful extrovert puppy, typy and a head with that wonderful mischievous expression (by Ch Skerryvore Dances With Wolves ex Alamawa’s Victorian Lace)

Ring manners of the exhibitors was immaculate and it was a real pleasure to judge this Specialty

A Little Postscript From Yvonne

“Before the show started the Cairns paraded round the showground to their ring behind a Piper in full Highland dress, a very moving sight!”
