MIDLAND CAIRN TERRIER CAIRN DAY 2006

Or

“Daz Does the Double!”*

The Midland Cairn Terrier Club held its annual Cairn Day on Sunday 24th September at Hasland Village Hall, near Chesterfield.

The day started off with a trimming demonstration.  Owners were shown how to trim their Cairn for show or pet, the willing helpers were Brian Mears, Maud Hawkes, Monica Ball, Dawn Inett and Alison Wragg.

The Jennie Fairweather delighted all present with an agility demonstration.  The weather turned fine and sunny so the agility was done in the park.

Just look at all these lovely puppies!!!!

A few “Clever Cairns” came forward to perform their tricks, amongst these was Sammie who jumped through a hoop whilst Cracker showed how to leave a biscuit alone till his master said ok.

After the popular lunch, the afternoon started with a Junior Handling class where Monica Ball was the judge, six youngsters took part and the winner was Alex Godfrey aged fifteen who handled Tycadno Hope and Glory.

After the lack of puppies at Championship shows recently it was heartening to see 12 youngsters in the Puppy Walk, Christine Soper was the judge and the puppy the judge would most like to take home was Patricia Clarke’s Conundrum Sweeter for me for Lentrick.  Best Puppy in Match was Liz Longdin’s Wellingley From Us To You and Best Adult & Best in Match, Brenda Shannon & Danny Storr’s Brenndarcy Spellbinder.  Best Loser was Alan, Linda & Amy Firth & Gwen Jones’ Cairngold Bucks Fizz.

In recognition of her work for the Midland Club, a presentation of a bouquet of flowers was made to retiring committee member Alison Wragg.

Alan Stephinson celebrated his recent 60th birthday by asking all present to join him in a glass of wine and a piece of cake.  Lovely!

During the day, Bob Gregory, Kennel Club Accredited Trainer took 20 students on a Conformation and Movement Seminar and Hands on Assessment.

All in all the day was busy and very well attended.  The hall at Hasland was full which just goes to show that these Fun Days really are beneficial and needed by the breed.
