CAIRN TERRIERS

It was a pleasure to be asked to judge the cairns at this show, but what a journey through all weathers including snow!  Not sure if the few absentees were due to the horrendous weather; but my appointed ring steward was unable to get there, however, my stand-in turned out to be a wonderful help!

A very warm welcome awaited me, by very friendly committee members (it was good to see Jean Hudson looking so well) and also by Mr P Hayton, who judged the W.H.W.T at the same time. It was good for me to sit along side Mr Hayton whilst Mr P Chappell judged BIS and BPIS. We discussed the dogs, what was even nicer was that we both agreed on which should take the two titles! (And our conclusions were the same as the judge!)

Puppy Dog (3)

1st – Petts’ DOONRAE GHILLIE – Dark Brindle 8 month.  Caught my eye as he came into the ring.  I wasn’t disappointed when I went over him. Nice head with correct bite, good reach of neck flowed well into good shoulders. Nice level topline. Good double coat Moved well and well up on his toes. Handled and showed very well.  Shame he came up against the super bitch puppy, I will be watching him in the future.

2nd – Stephenson’s TWOHOOTS BARANABAS- Wheaten 11 months. Nice head, with a pleasing eye and good bite. Not as balanced as 1, or as showy. Would prefer better rear movement.

3rd – Lynch’sFIELDRON CALL MY BLUFF AT LINACRELADS

Junior Dog (1)

1ST – Lynch’s FIELDRON CALL MY BLUFF AT LINACRELADS placed 3rd in last class. Nice head with correct dentition. Would prefer a little more about him. Kept pulling to the side when walking so difficult to assess his movement.

Novice Dog (1)

1st – Percy’s WINETTA JIMMY MACK. Nice head on this boy, moved fairly well but not on his toes. Level topline. Would prefer a little more length of neck.

Mid Limit Dog (1)

1st -Treglown’s CAIRNGRAE PHANTOM MENACE Dark grey brindle dog who is approaching veteran age. Clearly enjoyed his day out, and took first place.

Open Dog (6, 3 abs)

1st – Shannon & Storr’s BRENDARCY SPELLBINDER. This boy showed all out today. Beautiful head. Nice outline with level topline and good tail set. Double coat with nice harsh top coat. Moved with drive from the rear, good muscle tone helped, a little erratic at times in front could the small ring have put him off? Moved with drive in his class, however when it came to BIS he was not moving at his best, he appeared to be a little excited at that point!  BD & maturity helped him to take BOB, but that could change if he came up against the same bitch in a few months time!

2ND – Jeffrey’s SANDAIG SHEARER nice head with correct eye and a good bite. A little short in the length of neck which somewhat spoiled his outline. Steady mover and shower. Correct coat texture, with good undercoat.

3rd – Treglown’s BRENDARCY DANGERMOUSE

Puppy Bitch (3)

1st - Percy’s WINETTA ‘A’ YOU’RE ADORABLE. How true that name is!! 10 month old wheaten who caught my eye as she entered the ring. A lot to like about her. Gorgeous head and lovely dark eye, mouth had good strong teeth with correct bite. Good balanced outline, which was pleasing to the eye. Lovely movement for one so young, true back and front. Handled and showed beautifully. Hope she goes onto to do great things for her owner. Kept showing right to the end of the show, so was pleased to be able to award her BP & she also sparkled over all the other bitch winners to take BB.

Finally to finish her day off, she then went on to win a much deserved Best Puppy in Show under Mr P Chappell.

2nd – Stephenson’s TWOHOOTS AGNES Slightly smaller than one, although a little older, does not appear as finished. Movement was steady, however would like a little more drive. Pretty feminine head with correct dentition and eye.

3rd – Harland’s WINETTA ANTICIPATION AT THACKESTON

Junior Bitch (3, 1 abs)

1st – Percy’s WINETTA HEY GOOD LOOKING.  Wheaten. Litter sister to 1st in puppy, another nice head with pleasing expression and eye. Outline not quite as nicely balanced, however still moved well.  Showed constantly. Doesn’t quite have the same wow factor as her sister.

2nd - Harland’s WINETTA ANTICIPATION AT THACKESTON Grey brindle, and yet another litter sister too! Moved fairly well, but did not hold herself as well as her sisters. Level topline with good shoulders and another nice head.

Novice bitch (1)

1st – Petts/Jennings DOONRAE GOLD DIGGER. Would have liked a little more length of leg. Pretty head, coat could have been a little harsher. Moved fairly well, but needed more drive.

Post Graduate Bitch (4, 2 abs)

1st – Shannon/Storr/Culliford’s BRENDARCY BE BOP DELUXE Nice outline to this bitch who moved well with drive from behind. Pretty feminine head with good expression, correct dentition.  Good level topline. Let herself down in the challenge as she was not showing very well, and was the main challenger to my Best Bitch.

2nd – Jennings’ DOONRAE ZESTFUL. Dark brindle not as showy as 1, kept dropping her ears on the move, which really spoiled her head and outline. Nice dark eye. Unfortunately did not move with any zest or sparkle.

Mid Limit Bitch (2)

1st – Shannon & Storr’s BRENDARCY POLLY FLINDERS. A little short in the leg so wasn’t quite balanced. Would prefer a little more length of neck. Showed quite well.

2nd – Jennings’ DOONRAE ZESTFUL

Open Bitch (1)

1st – Jeffrey’s SANDAIG SUILEAN DUBH. Brindle. Pretty head with good eye and correct bite. Length of neck not in proportion to the rest of her, which spoiled her overall outline. Steady mover and shower, but no extra sparkle, may have done it all before.
