Dawn Inett Judges In Finland

BOB & BOS

BP & RBPIS

Cairn Terrier Club of Finland Championship Show

Judge – Dawn Inett

Turku, Finland, 18th June 2006

I had a fabulous time judging in Finland, the host’s Satu and Tina were exceptional and treated us like royalty.  To top the weekend, the weather was roasting hot.  I judged on Sunday in a lovely golf club/park area and really enjoyed writing a critique on each dog.  I understand I got through the 103 entries (only 2 absentees) in good time starting at 9 am and finishing at 5.15pm.  I gave Best Puppy in Show to Parssinen & Holopainen’s Rottriver’s Arnold Schwarzenegger.  Best in Show was a bitch imported from USA out of a Crowneast bitch, Mistywins Autumn Breeze owned by Theresa Silfver and Walter Buckowski.  A wheaten of lovely balance and correct size and super show girl.  Best Dog and reserve BIS also came from Junior, Sanderfield Perfect Trap.  A young chap but with everything I was looking for masculinity, showmanship, wonderful head and a lovely solid backend. The veterans have to be mentioned and they were brother and sister Multi Ch Janettan Alexander and Multi Ch Janettan Alexandrina.  At 11.5 years old these two stole the show, being in excellent condition, showing all out and moving really well.  There was a huge range in quality of the dogs shown, some obviously pets but traits throughout the day that are worth mentioning were low set ears which spoiled the expression.  The front angulation of many dogs was too straight and gave upright necks and swinging front action.  Loins were overlong in many exhibits and any power produced by the back end was lost in the loin and appeared detached from the front!  Rear angulations were overdone in some exhibits but I was glad to see not too many with this exaggeration.  This has become a frequent fault in some Scandinavian Cairns but I was delighted that I didn’t get too many Cairns with this fault today.  Heads in the majority of cases were lovely with expressive eyes of correct shape and colour.  Teeth were lovely and big with correct bites.  Presentation in all but one kennel’s dogs was super.  You could certainly see the Cairns that came from the north of Finland with huge weather resistant coats.
