Doris Howes died on 18th September at the age of 98 years. She had been in a nursing home for many years.

Doris shared the affix "Courtrai" with Chrissie Clark.  They were familiar faces around the Cairn ring in the 1960's, 70's and 80's.  They were both retired matrons.

The most famous of the Courtrai Cairns was, of course, Ch Robinson Crusoe of Courtrai, owned by Doris and Chrissie and bred by Gerry Robinson. He won his 1st CC under Sybil Churchill in August 1976, his 2nd under Frank Hayward and his 3rd at Crufts under Mrs Sparrow Wilkinson.  He went on to get 2 more CC's under Judy Parker Tucker and Bessie Shea.  But it is not his wins he was most famous for, it was because he sired 18 UK Champions and many more overseas Champions. He put his stamp on many litters, no matter how the bitch was bred.

Other Champions included Ch Coutrai Culty Boy of Skimmerton, Ch Courtrai John Julius, Ch Courtrai Mary Lou, Ch Courtrai Sally Anne, Ch Sugar Plum of Courtrai and Ch Courtrai Triella Trudy.

The funeral arrangements are not yet known, but will be notified as soon as possible.

Grateful thanks to Ursula Taylor for letting me know about Doris' passing.
