Cairn Terrier Association of Ireland

Championship Show 17th June 2006

I would like to thank the Committee of the CTA of Ireland for this appointment. My ring steward Mrs Claire Ann Ahern was also my host for the weekend and her hospitality was wonderful.

I had an entry of 40 dogs so it was disappointing to find that 50% of the entry was absent on the day. However I did have some very nice dogs to go over.

Baby Puppy Dog/Bitch. 1;BPIS Peers Tweedisle That Special Son, 5 month clear wheaten. Well grown and developed for age. Nice in head and eye, needed to use his ears a bit more. Nicely put together with good angulations both ends. When he settled this showed in his sound movement. In a good full puppy coat of correct texture. Showed well for such a baby.

Minor Puppy Dog. Not entries.

Puppy Dog. 1; Peers Tweedisle Piper Boy, 9 month clear wheaten. Up to size and shown in a very short coat, which made him appear rangier than he is. Ok in head with a nice eye colour and shape. A shade upright in forearm but nicely bodied and holding topline. Not co operating very well with his handler so movement was a bit erratic.

Junior Dog. 1; Reserve Dog Green Star, Peers Tweedisle Sweet Talking Guy. This 16 month old dog  scored in head and expression which was enhanced by his correctly shaped eye of desired colour. He presented a good balanced outline both standing and moving. In very good coat and condition. Moved out very well and a confident showman. A nice dog.

2; Dockrys Slishwood Solomon Grundy. Good sized red in a good coat. Not as pleasing as 1st in head, earset a little close and not the expression of class winner either. That said he is a nicely proportioned dog with a good spring of rib and nicely angulated behind. Moved out very well in profile but a shade wide coming to you.

Novice Dog; No entries

Graduate Dog; Absent

Limit Dog; Absent

Open Dog; 1 Green Star and BIS  Hogartys Ch/GB Ch. Cadagio As Good As It Gets. This dog was my star of the day he exudes breed type and has a classic head with that true Cairn expression. He presented a lovely outline both standing and on the move. Well angulated both ends which allowed him to move freely and with drive. A great showman and presented in A1 condition.

Veteran Dog/Bitch 1; Hogartys Ch/Int Ch Cadagio Talk of The Town 8 yr old dark grey brindle. Very masculine in head and outlook, mouth still ok. Good length of neck and firm topline, well ribbed. Coat in very good order. Moved out very well and showed steadily.

Minor Puppy Bitch. No entries

Puppy Bitch 1; Deans Orior Along Came Polly, 11 month wheaten brindle. Nicely made feminine head with a nicely shaped dark eye. Good length of neck into well laid shoulder, forearm a shade upright. Firm topline and well sprung rib. Won class on her more positive movement.

2; Healys Minorcas She’s Mine, dark brindle with a nicely made feminine head. Shown in a good coat of correct length and texture. Standing presented a lovely outline but on the move topline could be firmer. Moved nicely in profile but pinning in badly coming to you.

Junior Bitch. 1; Hogartys Cadagio Stand By Me, nice sized grey brindle. Very good in head and expression. Good length of neck and good angulations both ends. Well sprung rib, a shade long in loin. Coat not at its best but what was there had a good texture. Moved and showed steadily

2; Dockrys Slishwood Maud Jean, good coated red brindle. Nice size with good neck and firm topline. Carry a bit too much weight, which made her look square. Nicely angulated behind but a bit upright in forearm. Has a nicely made head but a round eye which spoilt the expression. Moved and showed steadily.

3; Keenans Shabana Golden Amber.

Novice Bitch; Absent

Graduate Bitch. 1; Deans Orior Maggie, nice sized wheaten brindle. Very keen expression, foreface could be a shade shorter but is not heavy. Very feminine in outlook and is well put together with good angulations both ends. Nicely bodied and in very good coat. Moved out and showed very well which won her this class.

2; Peers Tweedisle Smitten By Gold, another very feminine bitch. Wheaten coat of good texture but quite short which spoilt the overall picture. Nicely ribbed and firm in topline. Loin could be a shade shorter and moved a bit close behind.

Limit Bitch. 1; Green Star and Best Bitch  Hogartys Cadagio She’s The One. Very stylish light red brindle. Feminine well balanced head, correct eye colour and shape giving that true cairn expression. Just right for size, presented a lovely outline. Well ribbed, good angulations. Coat and condition just right. Moved out very well and a real showgirl.

2; Cunninghams Evanham Secret Formula. Smaller heavier made grey brindle. Head ok but could be a bit more feminine in outlook. Good coat of correct texture. Nicely made front but carrying far too much weight which totally spoilt her outline and movement.

Open Bitch. 1; Reserve Green Star Hogartys Ch Cadagio Catch Me If You Can. Light grey brindle. Litter sister to Dog Green Star winner and similar comments apply. Again true to type and so well balanced throughout. Totally feminine in outlook. A lovely head with intense expression. Super neck, shoulders and topline. Moved and showed very well. Pushed her kennel mate very hard for the big card.

2; Hogartys Look Who’s Talking red brindle new coat coming in but what she has is of good texture. Another quality bitch from this kennel. Again with a totally feminine head and expression. Good flowing lines with good angulations both ends. Moved out very well but not showing to her advantage.

3; Dockrys Ch Glenrood Magic Dreamer

4; Keenans Ch Shabana Stormy Skye Dancer

Brace. 1; Peers’ Brace. Very similar for size and shape. Colouring somewhat different though.
