Alan Felters (Landbuck)

Judges In Denmark

I was fortunate enough to be invited to judge Cairns at the Danish Terrier Club in Hobro.  Others have praised the hospitality and sportsmanship found in Denmark and I totally agree.

There were two shows that weekend, the judges all staying in Alborg where the Danish Kennel Club Show was being held. Some of the judges at the terrier show were also judging other breeds the next day at the National Show.

On Friday evening there was an informal buffet and I met people from many different countries. I was delighted to see Mrs Somerfield who I think was the only other person from the UK.

Next morning the  five judges  for the Terrier show were taken by taxi to the show, which was held in a huge sports hall. The others judged more than one breed and I enjoyed a quality entry of 62 Cairns with only a couple of absentees.

It was great to find so many so many good dog exhibits throughout the classes, in the bitch classes quality did vary more. I found some beautiful heads with deep stops. Mouths were good with big teeth. Presentation on the whole was good but some otherwise excellent Cairns were between coats.

The flooring affected movement, some exhibits jumped over the painted lines and some slipped.

My best dog DKCH CALE HILL’S NORMAN is a splendid red brindle dog. Loved his head. Presented so well and moved beautifully.  A great showman and a pleasure to go over.

Best Bitch and BoB was the gorgeous NORDCAIRN’S QWENDI. I fell in love with this extrovert red lady. Best of heads and expression. Alert at all times and moved with drive, really covering the ground. Presented in a well-trimmed full coat, with nothing overdone she was so confident it was a surprise to discover this was her first show. She later went on to Best in Show 2 .

A huge thankyou to my brilliant secretary/ steward and show manager Kirsten, who took time to be my tour guide around Jutland. A great day out and a great weekend. I loved it.
