Post Code Warning!
This weekend
I travelled to Scotland with my friend Christine (AKA Mrs Marmalade) and her new
Sat Nav, we set off with the greatest confidence in getting to our
destination. The first leg of our trip was on Saturday afternoon to a Holiday
Inn Express, the Post Code entered from our booking form took us directly to
the door. Great we thought, isn’t technology marvellous no need to read maps
anymore…….. On Sunday morning we set off in
plenty of time to the Royal Highland Showground, Ingliston. We entered the
Post Code into the Sat Nav, this was printed on the Schedule EH28 8NF. Then
we arrived at our destination “The Royal Highland & Agricultural
Society” Which just happens to be in the middle of an industrial estate
12.5 miles away from The Showground! After a bit of a panic, thinking we
would miss our classes and it being Sunday with not a soul about to ask
directions, I tried ringing the number for the SKC which was also
printed on the Schedule, for the correct post Code– this turned out to be a
“number not recognised”. So I rang Linda Firth who also has a Sat Nav, she
told me they had realised it was wrong and had just ignored it, she told us
to find the M8 and follow signs for the Airport!!!!! We arrived about 30 mins
before judging and I eventualy calmed down. When I recanted our tale of woe
to Sybil Berrecloth, I got no simpathy, especialy when she asked me how many
times had I traveled to the venue before? The
correct post Code should have been EH28 8NB, so now we know its 12.5 miles
from F to B in Scotland! The moral of this story is - Check the post code on multimap.com or Royalmail.com before you set off & “Use your common sense!”
