Jetsetter Pluis Has Double Troubles In Russia

Regular readers will know of our Pluis, who, since leaving Brenndarcy in 2004 has travelled the world with her Dutch owners. Clocking up thousands more air miles than the average dog, she is the much loved companion of Els & her husband Tjeerd (who travels due to his work in the oil business). Pluis is very good and when she sees her vari kennel knows they are off again and she settles down for a long flight. All has gone well until her last trip to Russia; this entailed a scheduled change of plane in Moscow. But when they arrived in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk Els & Tjeerd discovered that Pluis was missing and must still be somewhere in Moscow Airport!  As you can imagine they were frantic with worry, trying to trace her whereabouts and more importantly her safety. Pluis was eventually found safe and well and flew to Sakhalinsk VID (Very Important Dog) status the next day. She was also delivered directly to her owners by two very important looking uniformed Russian Military men!

Apparently Pluis’ tail had never wagged so much as when they were all reunited. Hopefully her “Teach yourself to bark in Russian” lessons will help next time!

Pluis then settled back into her snowy Russian surroundings and began growing her extra Fur Coat, but unfortunately she suddenly became very ill, partly paralysed and very weak, her worried owners took her to the local vet who after blood tests diagnosed Leptospirose! The Vet said the best thing to do was have her put to sleep! In tears a distraught Els said they would be back the next day.  After several phone calls to Vets in Holland they were given hope. With the help of a translator the Vet was told the specialist treatment that was needed to save Pluis, the Vet explained they did not have the resources to do this, so the drugs needed were sourced by her owners visiting every pharmacy in Yuzhno. Luckily their vigilance and determination paid of, after four weeks of twice daily visits for treatment Pluis was on the road to recovery, two months later she is her old self again, chasing those pesky Russian cats! (Els has told her not to worry the Lucky Black Ones!)
