7 Feb  2012 “Daz” – (Ch Brenndarcy Spellbinder) was rescued Yesterday from an icy pond in Oakenshaw, near Bradford.

He was out for a country walk with his owner Richard near Mill Carr pond  Oakenshaw, when he decided to chase after some moor hens who headed for the iced over pond. Daz also ran over the ice which then gave way!

Not being a natural swimmer he tried unsuccessfully to climb back on to the ice, luckily he saw a small island and managed to get himself on to there.

Meanwhile a Fire Officer came out to asses the situation, then a crew from nearby Brighouse attended and with an inflatable Sled went over the ice to rescue him. By this time the rest of the family had arrived and were very relieved when he was safely returned to dry land.

When I spoke to his owners last night he had been checked over by the Vet and was sat on the settee in a blanket with a  hot water bottle.

Like most Cairns this morning he is non the worse from his experience and was raring to go out for his usual morning walk!

Incidently one of the Firecrew was also called  Daz!
