Not all who wished too could attend the funeral of Judy Parker-Tucker, known not only throughout the British Isles but also most the world through the Cairn Terriers bred by her at the Uniquecottage Kennels.

At the service two tributes were made, the first was by Jim Pollock telling of when Judy had first spoken to him and the impression which she had made upon him over the years; the second which was an account by Joy Wangler & Jill Saulbrey’s (from down-under) of their first contact with Judy and this then took us to Australia and then on to New Zealand.

I found it strange that no mention was made to Exeter & Devon Crematorium as Judy had often spoken of it to me over the years; each time I’m certain she thought it to be the first time. It’s a way of life that one doesn’t realise how much another does for them, until that person is no longer there.

Most may know that George, Judy’slate  husband, had designed and created the beautiful gardens of the Uniquecottage Kennels at Silverton, which so many visitors have admired over the years. Yet, today, those who attended Judy’s funeral were surrounded by further evidence of George’s skill as a gardener; being the Head Gardener to Exeter Council, the gardens around the crematorium was a task in which he had been involved at the time of their creation.

Not until attending the funeral of John, Ruth’s late husband, did I get to see the gardens and realised why Judy was so proud to tell of them. George left his own tribute to his skill as a gardener; and by the history of Uniquecottage, built over the years, Judy has now left her own tribute to her skill as both a breeder and exhibitor of Cairn Terriers. We in Cairn Terriers will begin to really appreciate her work in Cairn Terriers, now she is no longer with us.

Should Ruth continue with the kennels, be it in a smaller way, and moves to Silverton, I pray that she retains 01293 860804 as the telephone number – for it is one of the very few which I can dial automatically.
