News from Jenny Fairweather about the Scottish Breeds Agility results for
2012
(Incidently Jenny tells me that there are as a matter of interest the
following cairns with the following prefixes: 3 Bireslaw, 1 Bencana, 1
Dorquette, 1 Carradine, 1 Tweedisle, 1 Blackrod, 1 Seveek, 2 O'Brae's in the
league)
This
year has been a very bad year for agility shows with all the heavy rain we
experienced in the summer with a lot of shows being cancelled.
I
received some sad news about one of our newer members, Kirsten Reekie and Bob a
Jack Russell,
Dandie Dinmont cross who joined us in January and very sadly Kirsten’s daughter informed me that
Kirsten passed
away very suddenly in March. Her daughter said she now looks after Bob and he
is still doing agility as she also did agility with her own dog. I am sure you
would all like to send rather belated condolences to Kirsten’s family and
friends. She is surely missed.
This
year we had several new members join our group. Margaret O’Connell with her two
cairn terriers, Brodie and Corrie joined in December 2011. Both cairns are
Grade 1 agility dogs. Margaret said “with Corrie's
track record so far I suspect he will be at the bottom of the league for a good
long while! Patience is vital when doing agility with Cairns eh?” So true!
Amanda Brooks joined us in May and also
has a cairn terrier called Libby. To quote Amanda:” I have a 6 yr old cairn,
whom I've had from 3 yrs (and she at that stage didn't even know she had a
name). She has come along way since then and I have managed to
start competing with our first show last Oct.11. We have since
been out twice more, but sadly eliminated each time! The only way is
up........!” From her prefix I see Libby was bred by some friends of mine just
‘down the road’ in Aylesbury. She is now at the age I’m told when cairns settle
down to doing agility???
Janie McSherry joined us in June and she has a three year old cairn
terrier called Co-Co. Janie says ”We are members of Phoenix Flyers, in Paisley
and we started training in Nov 2011, never done agility before, but now
we’re hooked”. Doesn’t this sound familiar? At their first show in June, Co-Co
came 3rd in the 1-4 jumping class. What a lovely way to start their
agility career.
And finally Kim Coleman and Miss Pickles who is a scottish terrier x poodle cross have only
just joined the group. To quote Kim ”my first agility dog, who I started to compete
with last year (she was absolutely fantastic and gained approximately 370
points - in fact she has now got enough points for her silver warrant). She is
now running at grade 3. What a very successful year they have had!
We
had very exciting news from Megan Drinkall with her cairn, Alfie. At their
first show this year they won straight into Grade 6. Then in December at the
Wyre show they were the Young Kennel Club Agility Dog of The Year so, we will see her and
Alfie at Crufts 2013. But Megan is not just taking one dog to Crufts but two!
Megan has been training her new dog Ruby, a Jack Russell terrier cross and they
won the Young Kennel Club Jumping at Adams/Derby KC
shows at Catton Hall. So they’re off to Crufts 2013 as well. Just to remind you
all that Jan (her Mum) says that Megan trains both dogs herself and she was 15
in April. What a huge achievement for Megan. Jan says she is very proud of the
three of them!
And now for the
most important part of this report.
Who is the overall winner of
the Scottish Terrier Breeds League for 2012?
The winner is…. Adrienne Atkinson with Tessa (I just
love this photo!)
Tessa with last year’s
(2011) rosettes
Tessa is a seven year old
Scottie cross. She is a grade 7 agility dog and they accumulated 112 points
throughout the year. They were also our Overall Winners last year.
Congratulation on their success for this year!
In second place with 73 points is …. Gillian Pringle and Indy
Gillian
Pringle and Indy
Indy
is an 8 year old Cairn terrier and moved up to Grade 4 this year from Grade 2
last year. Well done on getting into Grade 4. Indy had a tremendous achievement
gaining 73 points. Well done Indy and Gillian. Gillian sent me some lovely
photos which I wanted to share with you all. I think they are lovely especially
the look of determination on Indy’s face as he jumps!
In third place is Megan Drinkall and Alfie
who is now 8 years old and has moved up this year to be a Grade 6 agility dog.
What a very good year they have had. They managed to gain 43 points. I shall
look forward to seeing them both at Crufts 2013 as well as seeing Megan’s
second agility dog, Ruby at Crufts too!
Deidre
informing me of some results she sent in September which I had not included in
Rhum’s results. At the time I did not receive this email but Deidre forwarded
the original email to me which had a September date on it so I have to include
it in this year’s table. This changed Rhum’s total to 38 and moved him up the
tables to come in fourth overall in
the league table. Unfortunately moving Susan and Mac and Margaret and Corrie
down the table – sorry.
It
looks like there was a bit of a tussle for and fifth and sixth places between Susan Seal and Mac and
Margaret O’Connell and Corrie.
Mac
is a West Highland White Terrier, a Grade 2 agility dog, aged 5 who gained 24
points over this year so making him the fifth
overall winner just beating Corrie by 3 points! Margaret and Corrie managed to
achieve 21 points which put them into sixth
place. This must be something very special for Margaret as Corrie had only done two shows before joining the league! What
was that you said about Corrie being at the bottom of the league Margaret? A very good achievement – well done to you both.
Please note:
since sending out the first report and receiving feedback from members, I have
made the decision to exclude all
the results that were only sent to me
last night. Members need to send me their results on a regular basis as it just
makes more work for me!

Our
membership has increased this year and we now have 31 members an increase of 6
from last year. Once again we have more Cairn Terriers than any other breed and
it is lovely to see the other scottish terrier breeds and their crosses taking
part in our League. Especially as there is now a terrier league – no please
don’t leave for the new league.
See table below.
I am
not sure what has happen to some of our members and their results? I do hope
they still want to continue with the league and will send in their result for
2013. I know that Ollie, belonging to Nikki Barbar, Crisp belonging to Sorcha Price and Kai belonging to Laura
Mandelson have long term injuries and will not be doing any more agility shows.
Misty belonging to Mary Morgan retired from competition in 2011 at the grand age of 12 and what a fabulous
agility career she has had. What has happen to the others, remains a mystery?
Finally I just
had to show you all these lovely photos firstly The Palmer family:
Milly belonging
to Louise Palmer, having fun in last years snow.
Milly Palmer
enjoying the snow!
Mickey and Milly owned by
Louise Palmer. Mickey is a new addition to the Palmer household and has his
début at showing in February. Good luck to them both.

Then I could not resist
Misty!
Mary Morgan
with Misty and her rosettes in 2011
Misty was our overall winner
for 2010 and belongs to Mary Morgan from Ireland. Misty is a grade 7 agility
cairn. It is a very worthy achievement for Mary and Misty as there are not the
same large number of shows in Ireland that we have here. Misty retired in 2011
from agility at the grand age of 12 years. What a way to retire?
These are pictures of Poppy
and Mop owned by Linda and Tom Hasker. I am sorry but I do not know which is
which? Possibly the one on the left is Mop?

Please thank Royal Canin for
the vouchers they kindly donated to the league winners. There is a voucher for
the overall winner and one for each of the grade winners. These will go out
with the rosettes.
That is it now until next
year. I hope to be able to give you all regular updates this year unlike last
year – sorry.
I would like to wish you all
a very good agility year in 2013
Happy Jumping
