Breeders Final – Crufts 2015

The Final of the Breeders competition took place on Thursday 5th March at Crufts 2015. Our Team; Nick with Archie, Ness and Brian, Rita with Tippy and me with Kirsty, met at the specially designated area in the Pavilion of the NEC. We were of course supported by Team Leader Rosemary and Cameraman Chris!

The Breeders Teams were to be pre judged in Hall 1 and groups of 5 Teams at a time were “marched” from the Pavilion to Hall 1. It must have been quite a spectacle to see the 5 teams in their teams matching attire with beautifully presented dogs, all walking in single file through the Pavilion and into Hall 1. Being part of this cavalcade was certainly very exciting.

When our turn came we filed into the pre judging ring in single file and then lined up across the centre of the ring. The judge, Steve Hall, walked around the dogs and then asked us to move. We felt we preformed a very well choreographed up and back and we all presented our dogs to the judge for final assessment.

The judge looked at the five teams, made some notes with his Steward and we were dismissed from the ring to await the Grand Final in the Best In Show ring within the Main Arena.

There were 50 Breeders Teams competing so it was quite a logistical nightmare for the Stewards to get us all in the right place for the right time to form a procession into the main ring! We were ushered to the edge of the Pavilion so we were in Ring Number Order and in stages we progressed our way towards the Main Ring. As we got closer and closer to the Main Ring the excitement and chatter amongst the Teams become more and more intense

We chatted to one of the Ring Stewards as we waited and he was telling us about the TV schedule and how events in the Main Ring had to run to the minute! We were now feeling very excited to be part of this phenomena that is the Main Ring at Crufts

Our turn came to file across the Main Ring, cameras rolling and audience watching; I lead out with Kirsty followed by Rita with Tippy, Ness with Brian and Nick with Archie. Half way across the main ring Kirsty decided to have a wee! It was quite embarrassing, she had been outside but at only 10 mths old we blamed it on her nerves!

We filed around the edge of the ring, all the breeds were in Groups – we were about half way down the Terrier Group line up.

The judged made his final assessment and the short list was announced. Unfortunately, we didn’t make the short list but being part of this amazing event in its final year was certainly something that we won’t forget.

Team Carradine would like to thank our friends and families for their kind words of support both before and after the Final. We had a great time and like to think we carried the breed flag high and proud!
