3/01/2017 A Messsage
from The Cairntastic Girls Dear Brenda, As you have the best platform to address all in our
breed, I wondered if you could put out a 'rallying cry' to persuade people to
stay and support us on the Thursday afternoon? Obreedience will be in Hall 5 on Thursday
9 March 2017 at 4.30pm. (Terrier day so no excuse for not
supporting them) Meet The The Team Wendy
Laker Suzanne
Drew Having longed for a dog from the age of 4 years old, I had to
wait until I was 18 for my first dog, a German Shepherd. I took him to puppy
training classes, and got bitten by the 'Obedience' bug! Andrea Bolden Tycadno Ruby Red Slippers My early life was spent with Basset Hounds, Cocker and Field
Spaniels until I met my husband 21 years ago, a terrier man through and
through brought a Westie into our lives called Beanie who had a love/hate
relationship with everyone but him. When my Fields and the Westie got old and
passed away, along came Dave, a spikey, loud, hyper Jack Russell x Yorkie
puppy who ruled our lives then and still. Diane
Hartopp How to describe Dottie - Fun loving, full of character,
lovely, funny little girl. She is 2 1/2 yrs old, and came into our lives as a
little 'dot' struggling to survive after a traumatic birth to my other girl,
her mummy Millie. We knew from that very first day that she was a 'special'
little girl, against all odds she survived her traumatic injury, her 'very
risky' major op at 6 months old, and a near drowning in a canal lock at 12
weeks old!!! By the time Dottie was 14 months old, she had gained her
KCGCDS puppy, bronze, silver and gold awards, we then discovered our love of
Kc Rally and she qualified Level 1 at 18 months old. We then joined the
Obreedience team, and being the youngest, most inexperienced cairn, we
decided to do some lower level Obedience, and is doing well in Introductory
and Special Pre Beginners, gaining a place at Discover Dogs Semi Final 2017,
I am so very proud of her to date and looking forward to this season with her ❤️ The teams highlighted below in yellow have qualified Team Name Breed Breed Group Total Points Team Cairntastics Cairn Terriers Terrier 52 Team Petits Pyreneans Pyrenean Sheepdogs Pastoral 44 Team Canny Cavaliers Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Toy 34 Team Dachtastic Miniature Long Haired Dachshund Hound 30 Team Border Delights Border Collie Pastoral 29 The GSDS German Shepherd Dog Pastoral 25 The Defiant Giants Giant Schnauzers Working 24 Team The Cirneco Dell'Etna Club Obreedience

As you know Team
Cairntastic has worked very hard to get to Crufts in the Obreedience
competition, and we have had fantastic support along the way. We are also lucky
that the final is on Terrier day.
We would be so proud to
have all our Cairn supporters there to cheer us on, and I'm sure it would
boost our chances of winning too.
We are on at 4.30pm in the
Obedience arena in Hall 5. Seating is free, first come first seated. We are a
proud Scottish breed, and surely wouldn't want to be 'out-supported' by a
bunch of 'softy Southern' breeds!
The
Cairn Obreedience Team for Crufts 2017 Final,
Andrea,Wendy, Diane &
Suzanne looking very smart..
Wizoz Miss Backchat RL2 'Isla'
I have been involved with Cairn Terriers since 1995, when our first bundle of
Mega Trouble joined us. We had no idea how this little bundle of fun would
change life. Having been used to Border Collies, Rough Collies and Labradors,
a Cairn was quite a culture shock!! At dog training classes, I heard about
Obedience Competitions and made some enquires. I was told by Obedience people
that I would need to get a “Proper Dog” if I wanted to not be laughed at, and
at the same time Show breeders were telling me that a Cairn is totally
untrainable!
Fast forward to 2017, and Isla is my 5th Cairn. She is 5 years old and the
oldest dog on the team. We used to take part in Breed Showing but now
exclusively concentrate on Rally Obedience in which she has her Level 2
title. She loves nothing more than going for long walks, finding the deepest
muddiest puddles to wallow in. She keeps the garden clear of vermin, which,
judging by the number of holes in the flower borders and lawn, is obviously a
tough job she takes very seriously! We are honoured to be part of TEAM
CAIRNTASTIC, finally being able to show the world exactly what these little
guys can do
Tycadno Thriller at L'Artiste - Oscar
Working with your dog, training the exercises, travelling to competitions,
builds such a strong bond between you and your dog. An understanding between
species with no common language, it's such a beautiful thing.
I have always believed that you can train for more than one discipline with
the same dog, and have always competed in both the breed and Obedience rings.
We converted many disbelievers when I won out of Pre-Beginners and Beginners
at straight shows with my Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit) 'Harriet', the first
of her breed in the U.K. to do so.
My trainer, who had always teased that PBGV's were a challenging breed to
teach to do Obedience, didn't quite know what to say when I turned up at his
puppy class with a Cairn Terrier!
Oscar is my first Cairn, and my first Terrier, and I have to admit it has
been a steep learning curve! However, through all the battles of will, temper
tantrums (his, not mine!) and bloody minded stubbornness (that's both of
us!), we have turned willfullness into drive, stubbornness into
determination, and built a strong bond of trust and love.
We still have a long way to go to achieve my lifetime's dream of training a
dual Champion in breed and Obedience, but we are having lots of fun along the
way.
We have both learnt so much from our year with Team Cairntastic, and have
gained new bff's, both human and canine, sharing experiences and knowledge,
laughter and tears, (though not many tears) and lots of cakes!! Fun and happy
times - true team spirit.
Dave introduced me to competition obedience - of all the dogs I've ever had
he was the smartest and really needed to do something with his brain, which
at over 11 years old, still never switches off. Dave retired from obedience
last year having reached Class B and is now working at level 3 Rally. Next
came Mike, a Border Terrier x Yorkie who became a PAT dog working with my
mum, a retired nurse.
I wanted another dog to train for obedience and following the house rules of
"you can have as many dogs as you like as long as they are
terriers" I researched the various terrier breeds and fell in love with
the "best little pal in the world". While certainly not the easiest
dog to train, Ruby is the nicest dog I have ever known. We will always have a
Cairn in our lives from this point forward.
Ruby and I have had such a great time training with the Cairntastic team. It
is so lovely to see the dogs working together and we've all become such great
friends. We are so proud of our achievements in the Obreedience heats and
have made so much progress training together. Having the opportunity to
showcase this wonderfrul breed will be such an honour at Crufts, we can't
wait to get those ruby slippers on and show what we can do.
Dorothy's Red Shoes RL1 'Dottie'
Millie, her mum was my first cairn, she is 5 now, and I must say what an
experience it has been, she has made me laugh and cry, I have so many stories
about her escapades, and I have learnt so much from her, and I am pleased to
say Dottie is nothing like her, they are like chalk and cheese, but I
wouldn't change any of them for the world!!
We are both 'honoured' to be part of Cairntastic, it has been a magical
experience, and we have made the bestest of friends along the way. Dottie has
took it all in her stride and in the first few competitions exhibited a few
of the 'cairn traits', causing a little amusement.
Dottie is a much loved girl, at her happiest hunting!!! She loves the water,
the boat and the locks!!! Lol she loves people, other dogs, digging and
Life!!! LIFE is for LIVING, Dottie says, and I'm so very very proud of her
and looking forward to lots more Adventures with her ❤️
See you all at Crufts, it will be a fabulous day xx
