CRITIQUE

My thanks to the Southern Cairn Terrier Club for inviting me to judge my first breed Open Show. Thank you to the exhibitors that came to support me and the club and my very professional stewards. I know how hard it is to run a show with an atmosphere and this club did not disappoint even with the amount of absentee's. I am sure that "I" and the weather caused a "little" trial for the Show Manager and committee, I agree that outside is best but the dogs all coped with the inside ring on rubber mats really well.

My top honour Cairns could easily change places on another day. In my opinion they were all true to the breed type. I love good neck and shoulders and with this everything else fits in. I also like "full" harsh coats and at this time of year they should be at their best ready for the winter in the wild (not that many of ours live outdoors).

Class 1 - Minor Puppy Dog (No Entries)

Class 2 - Puppy Dog (1 Entry)

1st - Farwell’s Svendalens Starry Knight - Cream, up to size, masculine head, correct dentition, good rear angulation, hard to assess topline on the move as he was giving his handler a hard time in this class.

Class 3 - Junior Dog (4 Entries - 1 Absent)

1st - Yates & Johnson’s Nordcairns Quiero Mucho Of Pendley (Imp Dnk) - Lovely red with attractive head, good stop and neat ears, lovely reach of neck and clean shoulders, pleased to find a good forechest, moved with drive, shown and presented to perfection. R.B.I.S.

2nd - Shopland’s Trekhilli Mr Bean At Cherrycrack - Another lovely up and coming  male. Good head with attractive eyes, good stop and correct balance, just needs to tighten in front to complete the full picture

3rd - Peers’ Tweedisle Tugman.

Class 4 - Novice Dog (No Entries)

Class 5 - Post Graduate Dog (3 Entries)

1st - Mears’ Glenmear McIntyre - This boy took my eye and did not disappoint, lovely to go over, strong head with lovely appealing expression, good length of neck and sound topline, powered from his strong quarters, presented in a full coat which is unusual at present. B.D & B.I.S.
2nd - Peers’ Performing The Dream For Tweedisle - Smaller than 1 and another day would have changed his place. Pleasing head with good eye colour, level topline and tail carried correctly, moved well.

3rd - Kippen’s Carradine Dee Jay Of Chezaku.

Class 6 - Minor Limit Dog (1 Entry - 1 Absent)

Class 7 - Open Dog (5 Entries - 2 Absent)

1st - Thompson’s Castleline Barn Dance - Attractive head for a male, full dentition, a good stop, a good balanced body and side movement was pleasing. A little lethargic today but he is still a junior so has time on his side.

2nd - Bateman & Gompels’ Carradine Terries Tipple - I have met this dog before and his head is his fortune, good wide jaw with a good bite, strong ribcage and kept his topline on the move, coarse coat - would of liked a little more of it. No mistaking that he is a male.

3rd - Burman’s Anjofra Gorky Park.

Class 8 - Special Beginners Dog (1 Entry)
1st - Morley’s Kedvaiy Locamotion -  Good head with correct stop, topline OK on the move, good coarse coat, correct tailset, carrying a little extra weight which affected his front movement.

Class 9 - Special Veteran Dog or Bitch (7 - 9 Years Inclusive) - (7 Entries - 3 Absent)

They Are All A Credit To Their Owners.

1st - Bateman & Sach’s Dandi Boy Spud - Strong Masculine Head, lovely strong jaw and nice large teeth beautifully clean. He Has Kept His Topline and Drive, Showed Really Well.

2nd - Osborn’s Ch. Tweslam Maid By Magic - A quality bitch with a pretty head, good topline and her weight is spot on which reflects in her movement. she knows that she is lovely!! R.B.B

3rd - Morley’s Kedvaiy Locamotion.

Class 10 - Special Veteran Dog or Bitch (10 years and Over) - (1 Entry -1 Absent)

Class 11 - Minor Puppy Bitch (2 Entries - 2 Absent)

Class 12 - Puppy Bitch (1 Entries - 1 Absent)

Class 13 - Junior Bitch (2 Entries - 1 Absent)

1st - Thompson’s Castleline Caledonian Lass - Really pretty head, clean shoulders, level topline, when settled moved well.

Class 14 - Novice Bitch (2 Entries - 2 Absent)

Class 15 - Post Graduate Bitch (5 Entries - 3 Absent)

1st - Osborn’s Tweslam Gimme Gimme Magic - Very attractive light red bitch, pretty feminine head, with lovely neat ears, one of the best neck and shoulders of the day. Full correct textured coat, true movement and glided around the ring, at one with the handler. B.B.

2nd - Morley’s Cannwood Here's Hetty - Very showy grey brindle, pleasing head with neat ears, good outline, a little short of coat today Movement was OK

Class 16 - Minor Limit Bitch (4 Entries - 2 Absent)

1st - Osborn’s Tweslam Born To Bewitch - Same mother as 1st in the last class and she has certainly stamped her mark. Pretty head and a lovely shape and outline, true movement coming and going, again from this kennel shown in correct full coat.

2nd - Kippen’s Chezaku Moonlight Symphony - Smaller in size and outline to 1st, head furnishings a little sparse, correct eye colour and good dentition. Carrying a little too much weight which affected her front and rear movement, showed well.

Class 17 - Open Bitch (4 Entries, 3 Absent)

Really sad for Open Bitch class to have so many absentee's.

1st - Peers’ Tweedisle Paper Moon - This young lady made full use of being the only one in this class and really showed her little socks off. I liked her size and balance, lovely dark harsh full coat, good topline on the move, not quite as true on the table.

Class: 18 - Special Beginners Bitch (2 Entries, 1 Absent)

1st - Morley’s Cannwood Here's Hetty - 2nd in Post Graduate Bitch.

Lynda Hughes.
