South Wales and West of
England Cairn Terrier Club Limit Show 21st February 2016. My thanks to the club
for inviting me to judge this show and to all the exhibitors for giving me
such a quality entry and my steward for making everything run smoothly. It
was a most enjoyable day with lovely dogs to go over, wonderful refreshments
and there was a great atmosphere. Although I have owned
this breed for many years I tried to approach my judging of them with an
all-rounder head on. Obviously coming from a working background I put a lot
of priority on sound movement. In an ideal world a Cairn should have
beautiful breed type and be a good mover but as ever compromises have to be
made. I have never fault judged and like to focus on the positives in all
dogs. Trying to assess movement indoors on rubber mats is not always ideal
and some coped with the conditions better than others. I have always found
that a really good mover will move well anywhere. Minor Puppy Dog (1) 1. Parker-Tucker’s
Uniquecottage Gold Sherdow Sadly on his own today
and really did not have time to settle. Good to go over on the table, harsh
coat, good bone, straight top-line with strong quarters. Attractive head.
Very exuberant on the move and was able to see flashes of good movement when
he held it all together. Got better as the day went on and was best puppy
dog. Puppy Dog (2) 1.Peers Tweedisle
Tugman Won this class on his
maturity and coat condition. Good top-line, straight front and good coat,
head needs a bit more fill under the eye. On the move covered the ground well
but would like a bit more positive hind movement. 2. .Thompson’s
Castleline Ser Jaime Close to the winner
unfortunately coat condition let him down on the day. Attractive head, good top
line and tail set, held good outline on the move, just going a bit close
behind. Yearling Dog (1) 1. Confue and Pavlova’s
Anjofra Roulette Russe Attractive grey brindle
with good head. Good top-line, tail set and front. Good coat which was well
presented. Steady on the move but perhaps could have had a bit more
animation. Reserve Best Dog. Graduate Dog (1) 1. Thompson’s
Castleline Barn Dance Nice dog to go over,
attractive head, balanced body with good top-line and tail set. Good harsh
coat and straight front. Moved well and particularly good front movement but
a bit close behind. Mid limit Dog (1) 1. Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Winsford Mature full coated dog, straight top-line
with strong quarters. Strong head but would like balance of muzzle to top
skull just a bit more balenced. Moved positively round the ring but a bit
wide behind. Open Dog (2) 1. Peer,s Tweedisle
Relight My Fire Two very different
types in this class. The winner is a smaller balanced dog, who won on his
attractive head. Good harsh coat but could do with a bit more on his
quarters. Straight top-line and good tail set. Moved round the ring well 2. Kinchen’s
Pennidazzle All Spruced Up. Longer and bigger than
the winner but a sound dog. Not so attractive in head but good harsh coat,
lovely top-line and tail set. Held his outline on the move and was good
behind but paddling a bit in the front. Veteran Dog or Bitch
(2) Only two here but both
quality Cairns. 1. Bateman and Sach’s
Dandi Boy Spud. Have always admired
this boy and amazed that he is actual eligible for a limit show. Beautifully
balanced, good head, lovely front construction matched by strong quarters
with a straight top line and good tail set. Short harsh coat. I found him
totally balanced and he maintained a wonderful outline on the move. He
covered the ground really well with a minimum of effort, good both coming and
going. Best Dog. 2. Oldale’s Tweslam Dawn Chorus at Cranae. Another lovely veteran.
Attractive head, good coat, straight top line and good tail set. Another one
that covered the ground well just not as tidy coming and going as the winner. Beginners Dog or Bitch
(1) 1. Davey and Bailie’s
Beranburgh No Dramas Attractive puppy
carrying a thick puppy coat which slightly took away from her outline. Good
top-line and tail set and held a good outline on the move. Moved well behind
but needs to tighten in front movement and needs a bit more animation to
project her virtues. Minor Puppy Bitch (5) 1.Dolan’s Glenrood High
Society. Eight month old wheaten
brindle bitch.Had the edge on coat and showmanship. Good outline and
top-line, good rear movement but needs to tighten in front. 2.Shannon and Storr’s
Brenndarcy Dreamsville. Nine month old wheaten
brindle bitch. Very different type to the winner being taller and rangier.
Harsh profuse coat, straight top-line and good tail set. Had a lovely stride
on the move with powerful quarters, just needs to tighten all round. 3.Parker-Tucker’s
Uniquecottage Gold Avill. Puppy(5). 1.Dolan’s Glenrood
Burlesque. Litter sister to the
winner of the last class and slightly different type being taller and
rangier. Beautiful head, good coat, straight top-line and good tail set. On
the move held her outline really well and covered the ground with good
movement coming and going. Still very raw and loses her outline at times but
when it all comes together she is very impressive.BPIS 2.Short’s
Splinterhill’s Amazing Grace to Glenchess. Very close to the
winner a slightly different type being actually more mature. Good top-line,
strong quarters and harsh coat. Not quite the head of the winner. Side
profile she moved really well and powered from her strong quarters just needs
to tighten in elbow as she comes towards you she is a tad wide. 3.Parker-Tucker’s
Uniquecottage Florey. Junior (5) A lovely class to
judge. 1.Shannon and
Storr’s Brenndarcy Moonstruck. Beautiful red girl that
appealed on first sight. So balanced with good front and strong quarters,
good top-line and tail set. On the move she held a great outline and was true
coming and going. Harsh full coat. Good head but perhaps could just have a
bit more width between the eyes for perfection but that is being picky and
she is so classy. BIS 2.Keeves Seveek Hopes
’n Dreams So close to the winner
and another quality red bitch. Attractive head, good quality, harsh coat.
Straight top-line and tail set. She covered the ground well on the move
maintaining her outline, just a bit over energetic in front where she needs
to tighten. 3.Harrison,Inett and
Clayton’s Carradine Madam Molly. Yearling Bitch(1) 1.Keeve’s Seevek Hopes
’n Dreams. Novice Bitch(1) 1.Davey and Bailie’s
Beranburgh Wee Dram. Eight month old Dark
Brindle puppy carrying a full puppy coat. Attractive head. Moved well but
needs a bit more animation and needs to strengthen in front. Good quarters Graduate Bitch (2) 1.Osborn’s Tweslam Born
To Bewitch. Beautiful outline on
this red bitch, straight top-line and good tail set, carrying a harsh full
coat. Very true in front and rear movement, held her outline on the move. 2.Waugh’s Andrum Brite Side A close decision between these two. Beautiful head with dark pigment.
Good top-line and tail set. Covered the ground with a great stride just
didn’t hold her outline as well as the winner and although true in front
movement she was just not as good behind. Mid Limit Bitch(3) 1.Dolan’s Glenrood Scheherazade. Very smart wheaten bitch, good head, beautiful outline, good top-line
and tail set. Strong quarters which she used well on the move. She can be a
bit exuberant on the move and consequently loses her outline at times and
still needs to tighten in front a bit. 2.Waugh’s Tribannon Minuet. Beautiful head on this cream bitch. Rangier type that the winner. Good
top-line and tail set. On the move she really powered round the ring with probably
the best movement coming and going of the day. Just tends to lose her outline
a times as she moves round the ring. 3.Mcgrath’s Brenndarcy Cinnamon Girl For Owenreagh. Open Bitch(1) 1.Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Grey Bratton. Grey bitch that moved happily round the ring. Harsh coat coming
through, strong bone and good quarters, top-line just needs to tighten. Joanne Johnson. |
