Critique
I would like to thank the Committee of
the Southern Cairn Terrier Club for inviting me to judge its spring Open
Show. We enjoyed all four seasons in one day but overall the weather was kind
to us. Thanks to my two stewards for keeping things running smoothly and to
the exhibitors for allowing me the opportunity of assessing their dogs and
accepting my decisions gracefully. MPD (2, 1a) 1
Peers’ Tweedisle
Jaunty Lad – a wheaten with correct bite and strong jaw. Pronounced stop
and dark eye creating a typical expression. Good reach of neck into a level
topline held on the move. Correct layback of shoulder and nice rear
angulations. A promising puppy. PD (1) 1
Felters & Rumens’
Landbuck Kingsman – wheaten brindle shown in full coat of correct texture.
Correct bite, strong jaw and neat ears. Lovely expression. Good reach of neck
into a level topline. Moved with drive carrying his tail correctly. A
well-balanced, promising puppy. Pleased to award him BPD and BPIS JD (3) 1
Waugh’s Tribannon Karamak – light
wheaten up to size and shown in full coat. Strong jaw with correct bite and
pronounced stop. He has a lovely expression. His neat, correctly placed ears
with dark points finish his super head. Good reach of neck into clean
shoulders and a level topline. When settled he moved with purpose and drive.
He caught my eye as he entered the ring and didn’t disappoint. Pleased to
award him BD and BIS 2
Weinberger’s Cruzo Copper Coin For Correnie – nicely balanced red brindle. A correct bite, pronounced stop
and neat ears create a pleasing head. Good reach of neck into a level topline
with clean shoulders and correct tail set. Moved ok. 3
Bateman’s Carradine Whiskey Mac ND (1) 1
Weinberger’s Cruzo
Chorister With Correnie – wheaten brindle up to size and wouldn’t want him any
bigger. Correct bite, dark eye and lovely expression. Clean shoulders and
level topline. Correct rear angulations. Not settled on the move today. At 14
months he is still a youngster and has time to mature. PGD (4) 1
Day’s Tribannon Chocolate Chip At Trekhilli – a dark brindle who has a strong jaw with big teeth and
correct bite. His deep stop, dark eyes and neat ears create a mischievous
expression. Correct layback of shoulder and good reach of neck flowing into a
level topline. Correct rear angulations and well off for bone. Shown in
excellent condition he moved around the ring with drive and at one with his
handler. He is up to size and I wouldn’t want him any bigger. Pleased to
award him RBD 2
Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Come Dancing With Macmoon JW
ShCM – wheaten brindle. Smaller made than 1st but
well-balanced throughout. Pleasing head with dark points and keen expression.
Well off for bone. Good bend of stifle and level topline, held on the move.
Shown in good coat of correct texture. Moved well. 3
Keeves’ Seveek Treasure The Dream 4
Kippen’s Chezaku The Composer MLD (3, 1a) 1
Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Dark Charmer For Macmoon ShCM – a well-balanced grey brindle. Strong jaw, correct teeth and
deep stop. A keen expression though I would prefer a slightly higher ear
placement to complete the head. Good reach of neck into a level topline.
Correct layback of shoulder and tail carried well. He moved around the ring
with purpose. 2
Kippen’s Seveek Look To The Future At Chezaku – wheaten shown in full coat. Correct bite and strong jaw. A
pleasing head with dark points and a keen expression. Good rear angulations
when stood but didn’t settle on the move today. OD (4, 1a) 1
Peers’ Tweedisle Lively Lad – a wheaten brindle
with a strong jaw, deep stop and correct dark eye. He has neat ears and a
lovely expression. Good reach of neck into a level topline with correct
layback of shoulder and tail set. He was shown in good coat and moved well in
both directions. A close decision but his overall balance won him this class.
2
Day’s Trekhilli Pepprazzi – a dark
brindle shown in lovely condition. Correct bite, strong jaw and deep stop.
Neat ears and a lovely expression. Correct layback of shoulders, level
topline and tail set bang on. Moved well in both directions. 3
Kippen’s Carradine Dee Jay Of Chezaku SBD (0) Special Veteran Dog or Bitch (7-9 years) (3, 1a) 1
Lamb & Saltmarsh’s Renshaw There And Back Again Under
Macmoon ShCM – a dark, well-balanced brindle dog with a
pleasing head and correct bite. He has a level topline, which he held on the
move. Moving a touch close behind today. BV
2
Kinchin’s Carradine Ruby Tuesday at Pennidazzle – a dark brindle shown in good coat. She has a lovely
expression and is still full of Cairn spirit. Her movement could be a touch
more positive but she was clearly enjoying her day out. Special Veteran Dog or Bitch (10 years and over) (2, 1a) 1
Lamb &
Saltmarsh’s Birselaw Fable Of Macmoon – a dark brindle with a keen expression and
pleasing head. He was well handled and moved around the ring with enthusiasm.
A happy character. MPB (4, 3a) 1
Peers’ Tweedisle
Spirit Free – a nicely balanced wheaten. She has a correct bite,
pronounced stop, neat ears and a lovely expression. Clean shoulders and level
topline. Correct double coat of correct texture. She could be more positive
on the move but has plenty of time to develop. A promising puppy. Pleased to
award her BPB PB (2) 1
McIntryre’s Cannwood Celtic Charm – wheaten puppy shown in good coat of correct texture. Correct
bite, neat ears and dark points create a pleasing head. Moved ok. She needs
time to mature. Her overall balance won her this class. 2
Kinchin’s Pennidazzle Dream Of Dreams – a dark brindle shown in a good coat of correct texture. Correct
bite, dark eyes and neat ears. She has a lovely expression. Looking a little
long cast today. Moved ok. JB (6, 3a) 1
Bateman & Ravenhill’s Carradine Fizz Bomb – a well-balanced red shown in excellent coat of correct
texture. She has a correct bite, strong jaw and pronounced stop. Neat ears
and desired dark points complete a pleasing head. She has clean shoulders and
a level topline, held on the move. She is a lovely showgirl, but occasionally
loses her tail when standing. 2
Robinson’s Cruzo Curtain Call – a wheaten
brindle shown in short coat of correct texture. Correct bite, neat ears and
desired dark points. She has a lovely expression. Correct layback of
shoulders, level topline and good tail set. Moved well both ways. 3
Keeves’ Seveek Cherry’s Dreams NB (3, 1a) Two very different types 1
Robinson’s Cruzo Cat Balou – a wheaten
brindle. Litter sister to 2nd in JB and similar comments apply. She carries a
larger frame than her sister but remains well-balanced. A close decision but
she won this class on her overall balance. 2
Bateman’s Carradine Mon Mon Sherry – a red shown in a lovely coat of correct texture. She has a
correct bite, strong jaw and eyes of correct shape and colour. Neat ears and
dark points create a lovely head. Correct layback of shoulders, level topline
and tail carried correctly. Moved well. PGB (2, 2a) MLB (2, 2a) OB (6, 3a) A lovely class with close decisions 1
Soper’s Elitecharm Five Of Diamonds – a nicely balanced wheaten brindle shown in lovely condition.
Correct bite, deep stop and neat ears create a mischievous expression. She
has a good reach of neck, clean shoulders and carries her tail correctly. She
moves well coming and going, holding her topline on the move. A lovely,
quality Cairn. I was pleased to award her BB and RBIS 2
Kinton’s Woodthorpe Enigma – a dark
brindle who is smaller made but well-balanced throughout. Correct bite,
strong jaw and neat ears. Correct layback of shoulders, level topline and
tail set bang on. Positive movement coming and going. Another quality Cairn.
I just preferred the size and balance of number 1 in this class. No denying
her many attributes so I was pleased to award her RBB 3
Morley’s Cannwood Here’s Hetty SBB (1) 1
Morley’s Cannwood
Here’s Hetty - 3rd in OB. A grey brindle who is balanced
throughout. A pleasing head with correct bite, dark eyes and neat ears, which
create a lovely expression. Moved ok in both directions and held her topline
on the move. Another lovely Cairn. GERRY LEIGHTON
