Scotland is home to the proud owners of the
first three Showdogs to win the Kennel Club’s new title of Open Show Winner
(OSW). To gain this title, dogs must have attained both the new Junior
Warrant, that is 25 points in total at both Championship and Open Shows – 7
points coming from Open Shows and a minimum of 3 at Championship Shows before
the age of 18 months, and hold the title of Show Certificate of Excellence
(ShCEx) achieving 50 points at Open Shows after the age of 18
months.
The first dog in the UK to do this was Claire
Bayne and Marilyn Smith’s 2 year old Bichon Frise OSW Manoir’s Mr Moonlight
JW ShCM ShCEx (Aero) bred by Pauline Johns.
Drew and Anna Duff’s Newfoundland bitch OSW King
Of Helluland My Queen At Titanbears JW ShCM ShCEx (Imp SVK)(Mika) was the
second to gain this title and the first bitch, aged just 21 months, she
achieved it in just 13 weeks. Mika has also qualified for the Kennel Club’s
Junior Warrant Competition Semi Final at Discover Dogs in October. She was bred
by Sonia Krocko.
The third to gain the title is the only Scottish
bred dog and the first Scottish Breed is Jo Lamb and Bernard Saltmarsh’s
Cairn Terrier OSW Birselaw Come Dancing With Macmoon JW ShCM ShCEx (Len) aged
2 bred by Yvonne Catto. He has also qualified for the Junior Warrant Semi
Final at Discover Dogs.
It’s great to see our Scottish owned dogs leading
the way in the Open Show ring.
