The
Cairn Terrier Club of Greater Detroit held their annual back to back
specialty shows in Ann Arbor close to Detroit.
These shows were postponed from 2021 due to the pandemic, but with the
world slowly starting to open up the decision was made to go for it. That's not to say it was all plain
sailing as a negative PCR is required within 24 hours of entering the U.S.A so with five flights and four hotels
booked it was an anxious time, thankfully we were fortunate and all went to
plan, spending five days in Boston before flying out to Detroit to meet Will
and Diann Flory, our friends of
many years. I
judged on the Saturday and Diann Sunday,
the entry (47) was affected by
covid as some exhibitors didn't want to travel long distances and there were
no Canadian exhibitors due to testing required to both leave and re-enter the
country and that accounts for about 20% of their normal entry. This
was my third appointment in the states, five years after judging the CTCA centenary show I hoped that there would
be some quality cairns on view and I was not disappointed. “CeCe” my best in show is a stunning example of a Cairn
Bitch, beautiful head and expression, so well balanced and moved like a
dream, in a nice coat and she is full of personality. My cup of tea, and only 15 months old! Best
opposite sex was “Cormac”. When he enters the ring he demands your attention,
all male, looks a picture and is put down to perfection but with a rugged and
natural appearance. His movement is a joy to watch. I was told later that he
has been the Number 1 cairn in America
for the last two years, not surprising at all. After
Diann judged on Sunday we headed back to their home in Virginia to catch up with Geri. AmCh Honeyhall
Halliwell who is now 13 and a
half years old and although not having the best eyesight and a little
stiff still rules the roost. We
ended our vacation with a few days in Washington
DC before flying home to Scotland with more good
memories and some new friends. Iain |
