Jack G Smith Another passing of a very dear friend of ours, Jack Gary
Smith (Redcoat) who died peacefully at home on January 27, 2024. Jack was approaching his 83th birthday and
had been ill for some time. He bought one of his first Cairns from Cairngold, back in
the early 1980’s. He was
professionally handled by Bergit Coady who campaigned him to become a US
Champion. Over the years Jack and his wife Karen made up many Champions. Jack was a “licensed” judge in the States and had awarded
CC’s in the UK too. He judged the MCTC
Championship show in 1998. Jack was a rather unique person, so interested in the Cairn
breed, both showing and on the administrative side. He held many top positions in the Cairn
world in the US. He worked hard for
the Cairn Terrier Club of America and was an ex President of that
organisation. Many of you will
remember his presentation at the World Symposium in 2013, he would have liked
the UK Breed Standard to be adopted worldwide. Jack had an illustrious career, retiring some years ago, as
Assistant Sheriff of San Diego. Prior to that he held top level positions in
the Los Angeles Police Department. Following his retirement he busied himself
as an “expert witness”. Karen tells me that it was Jack's wish that on a beautiful
day in Fallbrook, they casually celebrate LIFE with family and friends. She writes “February 17, 2024 would have
been Jack’s 83rd birthday, and it would be most appropriate to share memories
and good times together.” So, a
celebration of Jack’s life will take place on that day. We have had 40 years of friendship and many happy times
together. Jack and Karen are our
daughter, Amy’s, Godparents. RIP Jack
and condolences to Karen and family. Linda & Alan Firth |
