CAIRN  TERRIERS

South Wales and West of England Cairn Terrier Club Open Show Friday 9th June 2023

held in conjunction with Three Counties Championship Show

I would like to thank the SW&WECTC for the honour of being invited to judge their Open Show. Great thanks also must go to all the exhibitors who entered under me and were so sporting and good humoured with my placing on such an oppressively hot day. I was honoured and delighted with such a great entry.  Due to the heat, in some classes I didn’t move the whole class prior to judging each exhibit individually.   A slightly cooling breeze later enable normal procedure to recommence.  There were some lovely youngsters shown which is most encouraging for the future.  I must congratulate and thank my hard working steward Gerry for running the  ring so smoothly  and efficiently.

Class1- VETERAN DOG OR BITCH 5 (2)

1ST  Miss J Smith's CANWOOD MISTYDAWN AT GETHLEE

7 years young wheaten. Nicely proportion with good bone.  Attractive head with excellent stop and expression. Harsh coat. Moved well .Shown and presented well. BVIS

2ND   Mrs A Davey & Mrs C Baillie's BERANBURH BARLEY TWIST

Almost 8 years young. Well-made bitch with good bone and proportions. Good layback of shoulders and turn of stifle. Nice head and good coat. Shown and presented well. Just preferred the hind movement of the winner.

3rd  Miss A Saich's LlNCOLY SWEETEST OREO

Class 2 - MINOR PUPPY DOG 3 (1)

1st Mr J & Mrs C Roberts CANNWOOD MOONLIGHT SHADOW

Very promising 8-month-old wheaten with dark mask and ears. Sowell-proportioned with good chest, front and rear angulation, level top line and good tail set. Correctly proportioned head with good stop, excellent big teeth and correct scissor bite. Ears could be better placed. Double coat with harsh texture. A little loose still in front movement but that will tighten with age. Well presented. He showed so confidently, was attentive to handler and never put a paw wrong. An exciting prospect. BPD BPIS

2nd Mr & Mrs I Mcintyre's MACANTSAOIR CELTIC WARRIOR

7 month old brindle rangier type than the winner. Head well-proportioned  with good teeth and bite, dark eye and well placed ears. Neck flows nicely into level top line.  Ok for bone. Well presented.

14 month old brindle. Another alone in his class but worth his 1st placing. Correctly proportioned head with scissor bite, big teeth, deep stop and dark eye.  Good bone throughout , well sprung  ribs.  level top line with good tail set. Well put together   rear assembly with lovely angulation.   Correct harsh double coat.  Moved ok.

Class 6 -  POST GRADUATE DOG  2 (0)

1st Miss R Lucas & Mr  I Tobutt's SEVEEK COUNTRY LAD

Smaller and not as flashy as the 2nd but very well put together, balanced with good bone.  Nice flow of neck into level top line, good tail set  lay of shoulder  and rear angulation.   He never stopped showing and moved well.

2nd Mrs A Waugh's  GLENROOD GALAXY AT TRIBANNON

Taller and rangier than the winner.   He is  a showy dog with  a good coat,  nice head with  correct  bite,  lovely  flow  of neck into  level top  line. Good rear angulation   and moves with drive. A little  proud of his tail today.

Class 7 - LIMIT DOG 3 (0)

1ST Miss L Hiam's CARRADINE ARFA PINT JW

21 month old red brindle.  I've judged  him before  and he continues  to mature  to advantage,  still  being a young  dog  will  benefit  from further   development.    As always shown and presented to perfection.    Well balanced throughout, lovely to go over on the table, well-proportioned     head, good bite and large teeth.  Good stop, eyes and ear placement.   Could be a tad more masculine.   Neck flows into level topline, kept on the move. Good lay of shoulder and well angulated rear. Tail well set on and carried.   Excellent harsh double coat.  Moves well coming and going. Stands well forward   on his toes and always looks ready for action.   BD B1S

2nd Mrs J Keeves' SEVEEK GUILDED DREAM

Red youngster with  excellent  harsh double  coat. Very attractive   but masculine head, good teeth  and bite.  Enough bone.  Moved ok both ways. Another who is a little too proud  of his tail.

Class 8 -  OPEN DOG – 4 (2)

1st Miss B Shannon,   Mr  D Storr  & Mrs M Middlehurst's BRENNDARCY ITS MAGIC (AI)

Larger type, wheaten dog with dark points. Well balanced of nice make and shape. Good head with correct bite, level topline and good tailset.  Good layback of shoulder.  Correct brisket and well sprung deep ribs.  Good harsh double coat.  Close decision, just preferred the movement

of the winner.

1ST Mrs J Bingham's  CARRADINE BUMBLING  BORIS

Light   red dog with dark points.  3rd in limit.   Nice head with good stop and correct bite.  Good quality coat. Showed nicely but could have been a little more positive  on the  move.  BSB

2nd  Mrs J Metcalf-Sault's   CANNWORD QUIET REFECTIONS

Nicely made grey bitch, coat not at its best today.  Showed well.

Class 10 -  MINOR PUPPY BITCH 4 (3)

1ST Miss  B Shannon  & Mr D Storr's  BRENNDARCY WITCHES PROMISE

Such a pretty feminine 7-month-old red brindle puppy.  She has a sweet head with good bite and big teeth.  Very cheeky expression.   Well-made throughout   with a good harsh double coat.  Well  presented and handled.  Promising. BPB

Class 11-   PUPPY  BITCH 3 (0)

3 naughty puppies!  All 3 were  nice to go over and looked  good standing  but would  not co-operate  to varying  degrees on the  move.  Maybe it was the oppressive  heat or more ringcraft  required.

1st   Miss A R Parker-Tucker's BIRSELAW FLORAL DANCER OF UNIQUECOTTAGE

11-month-old wheaten bitch. She has a lovely head with deep stop, dark eye and wonderful expression when she consented to use her well placed ears. Lovely flow of neck into level topline correct tailset.  Nicely constructed body with correct angulations.  Moved well on occasions. Another promising puppy.

2nd Miss D Inett & Mrs R Harrison's CARRADINE PICCADDLILLY

Very pretty 8 month old red bitch puppy presented in excellent coat. Well put together throughout.  Promising puppy who didn't fully cooperate on the move today. Preferred the head and expression of the winner.

3rd Mr C & Mrs L Saich's LlNDCOLY PICTURE PERFECT

A nice puppy to go over and when standing but threw away any chance she had by refusing to move in any sort of straight line! Shame.

Class12 -JUNIOR BITCH (4)

1ST Mrs A & Mr A Osborn's BEGIN AGAIN AT TWESLAM

Attractive 16 month old wheaten brindle bitch. I liked her size and balance. She has a lovely feminine head, level topline, correct tailset, harsh double coat.  Would prefer more bend of stifle.  She moved and showed well.

2nd Miss A R Parker-Tucker's UNIQUECOTTAGE RED CHERVIL

15 month old Red brindle bitch. Super head with lovely expression, correct mouth and bite. Level topline and tailset. Well made body with enough bone, well balanced. A lot to like but she played up her handler today, when she consented to she showed and moved well.

3rd Miss A Salch's LlNDCOlY HERE COMES OH SHI

Class13 – NOVICE BITCH (2)

1st Miss A R Parker-Tucker's SANDRIO ZINNIAOF UNIQUECOTTAGE

14 month old wheaten brindle bitch. Just right for size and balance. Super head with correct scissor bite and large teeth, dark eye and good stop. Excellent textured double coat.  Full of quality and breed type. She took my eye on entering the ring, everything a Cairn bitch should be. I thought she would have top honours today but she just would not move correctly in the challenge. I was so disappointed, but I predict good thing for this lovely young bitch.

2ND Mr C & Mrs L Saich's LlNDCOlY WALKING IN MEMPHIS

Very pretty 11 month old light red bitch. Well made with good bone. Nice head and good mouth. Well laid shoulders, nice flow of neck into good top line. She needs to be more animated standing and on the move.

3rd Mrs J Ballinger's CLOVERBROOK FORGETME NOT

Class14 – POST GRADUATE BITCH (8)

1st Miss A Bubb's WANDRIS PLEASE YOURSELF JW

Strongly made dark bitch with excellent bone. Good angulation front and rear and well balanced. She has a good head with correct stop, dark eyes and good mouth with large teeth. Level topline with correct tail set. Excellent harsh double coat. Moved very well behind. Well presented and shown.

2nd Mrs A & Mr A Osborn's TWESLAM CHASING RAINBOWS Pretty dark brindle bitch. liked her size. Good head with dark well set eyes, good mouth and teeth, good ear placement. level topline and correct tailset. Moved and shown well.

3rd Mr C & Mrs L Saich's LlNDCOLY WITCHES BREW

Class15 - LIMIT BITCH 9(2)

1st Miss D Inett Mrs R Harrison & Miss R Bateman's CARRADINEPUMPKIN PIE

Red brindle. Loved her make and shape, well balanced. Good to go over on the table, more brisket would complete the picture. Good head with nice expression. Harsh double coat. Moved and showed so well which won her the 1st place. BB RBIS

2nd Mr S Thompson's CASTLELINE MAITREE

Quality wheaten bitch. Excellent make and shape. Very pretty head with deep stop, lovely eyes and expression with well placed ears. Well off for bone. Moved very well. Unlucky to meet 1st who just prevailed due to her more animated movement and showing.

3rd Mrs J Kinchin's PENNIDAZZLE DREAM OF DREAMS

Class16 – OPEN BITCH 8(4)

1st Mrs A Waugh CH GLORY DAZE AT TRIBANNON

Well made with good bone and well sprung ribs. Excellent shoulder placement front angulation and fore chest. Lovely flow of neck into level topline with correct tail set. Well-turned stifle with good rear angulation. Moved well. Won her class with ease but unfortunately she was another who seemed to be effected by the heat and long day as in the challenge as she lost her mo-jo. RBB

2ND   Miss D Inett & Mrs R Harrison's CARRAOINE WILMA

Well balanced dark brindle of nice size and shape. Good double coat of correct texture. Typical head with lovely expression. Moved and showed well.
