The Midland Cairn Terrier Club (who sponsor the Cairn Classes)
would like to thank everyone who supported this show . BAKEWELL OPEN SHOW, 4 August 2004 CAIRN TERRIERS It was a privilege to be
invited and a pleasure to judge Cairns at Bakewell with the sponsorship of
The MCTC. The overnight heavy rain subsided and I was able to judge outside
in a well-prepared ring. Thank you to all the exhibitors who entered. I found
a number of exhibits to be overweight and movement to be rather stilted in
others, but still had a good number of quality dogs to go over. BOB was Cairngold Coral, BOS was Cloverbrook Wild
Card and BP was also Cloverbrook Wild Card. PUPPY (4/2): 1. Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Wild Card, a dark
grey brindle dog, 9 months old and well balanced. Correct length of neck
running into well laid back shoulders with a good straight front. Level top
line and correct tail set, covered the ground well on the move. BP, BOS.
2. Mear’s Glenmear Billy Flynn, 7 months old red brindle dog of good size,
but slightly longer in the back than 1. Good head and expression, well placed
shoulders and correct coat. Misbehaved on the move and did not show himself
to advantage. JUNIOR. (2): 1.
Shearsmith’s Cloverbrook Double Six at Eborvale, a dark red brindle bitch.
Lovely head and expression with a good straight front coming from good
shoulder placement. A little heavy in body mass and reluctant to show with
spirit. 2. Newton’s Strathinver Royal Applause, of similar construction and
colour to 1. She was also reluctant to show and lost out on movement today. NOVICE. (7/3): 1.
Braybrook’s Cute ‘n Clever, an attractive Wheaten bitch with dark points. An
attractive feminine head and well proportioned body giving a pleasing
outline. Well constructed with level top line. Moved and showed well. 2.
Mear’s Glenmear Martini, slightly smaller than 1, but still well balanced.
Another well constructed exhibit, but did not move as well as 1 today. PG (11/3 ): A nice
class of exhibits to go over. 1. Firth and Jone’s Cairngold Coral, a good
well-proportioned red bitch. A lovely typical Cairn head set on a good length
of neck running into well-placed shoulders and standing on a straight front.
A level top line with correct tail set and good bend of stifle. Moved and
showed well. BOB. 2 Watson’s Carocairn Moulin Rouge by Fieldron,
another nice exhibit slightly lighter in colour than 1. I particularly liked
her head and level top line. Not so spirited on the move as 1. LIMIT. (10/5): A pity
so many were absent. 1. Jeffrey’s Sandaig Suilean Dubh, a dark grey brindle
bitch, another quality exhibit. Very feminine head with typical Cairn
expression set on a good length of neck. Well laid-back shoulders and
straight front, level top line and firm but well angled rear quarters. Moved
well. 2. Mear’s Glenmear Malfoy, a large red brindle dog with an attractive
masculine head. Nice outline, but behaved like a bloodhound on the move,
could not resist the ground smells. OPEN. (5/3): 1. Treglown’s Cairngrae Phantom Menace, a dark
brindle dog. Nice head and level top line, but in my opinion overweight and
hence the impression of being heavy at the front. 2. Jeffrey’s Silent Wings,
a light wheaten bitch heavy in coat. A veteran now and although good for her
age, shows at a disadvantage to younger exhibits. Anthony Osborn |
