His Grace The Duke of
Devonshire It is with deep regret that the Midland Cairn Terrier Club
announces the death of its Patron, His Grace The Duke of Devonshire who died
3 May 2004. His Grace accepted the Club’s invitation to become our Patron
in 1999. At the December Championship
Show that year he attended to present the prizes to the main winners. Many of you will recall that this was a
special show to celebrate the “Last Breed Club Show of the Century” and the show
had a Victorian theme. At the Club’s
request His Grace attended in evening dress, his chauffeur driving him to the
show in the Bentley. I remember
worrying because it had started to snow in the afternoon and the drive from
Chatsworth House to Sharley Park is not an easy one in bad weather. His Grace chatted with our President about one of his
favourite interests, horses and posed happily for photographs joining in the
atmosphere of the show. Only recently His Grace had kindly agreed to be the judge of
our Puppy Photograph competition. It is well known that His Grace was a very generous and caring
person and many will miss him greatly. Our condolences go to his family. Linda Firth |
