CAIRN TERRIER ASSOCIATION

OPEN SHOW

SUNDAY 16 MARCH 2003

The CTA held an Open Show at Peopleton Village Hall near Worcester.  There was a lovely entry and I thoroughly enjoyed my day.  Temperaments were excellent, I found no incorrect mouths, but thought movement, particularly front movement, left a little to be desired in some exhibits.

BIS was Dolan’s Rossarden Glen Moira, RBIS/BOS Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Loaded Dice and BP Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Coaldust.

VD/B (5, 3a)

1.  Parker-Tucker’s Ch Am Ch Uniquecottage Bright Gold.  Attractive 8 year old red in excellent coat and condition.  Lovely head and expression.  Liked his size and balance.  Moved well.

2.  Ward’s Vanajam Palmist.  7 year old wheaten with appealing feminine expression.  Good neck, shoulders, topline and tailset.  Showed beautifully and seemed to enjoy herself.  Carrying just a little too much weight which spoilt her movement today.

3.  Oldale’s Fransuda Tamarix at Cranae

MPD (4, 1a)

1.  Weedall’s Clairvona Acrobat Son.  Red brindle baby in good coat.  Typical head and expression.  Not a big dog but nicely balanced.  Once settled moved well with drive.

2.  Tutchings’ Crowneast Hurrican Floyd.  Another nice puppy.  Wheaten brindle with good head.  Well presented in good quality coat.  Straight topline and well angulated rear.  Movement OK but just needs to tighten up a little in front.

3.  Thompson’s Castleline Prince Harry

PD (4, 1a)

1.  Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Rusty Leaf.  Well-built wheaten with good head and eye.  Good reach of neck and layback of shoulders.  A little wayward on the move at times but moved with drive once settled.

2.  Weedall’s Clairvona Venetian Mask.  Red brindle with good harsh coat.  Liked his overall size and outline.  His front movement let him down today but this could improve with maturity.

3.  Smee’s Oudenarde I’m Alright Jack

JD (6, 1a)

1.  Confue’s Anjofra Bang on the Door.  Smart red dog with very outgoing disposition which gave him the edge in this class.  Good head and expression, straight topline, enough depth and spring of rib, strong rear.  In excellent harsh coat.  Moved well when settled.

2.  Harrison & Formosa’s Carradine Hudson.  This dog caught my eye when he came into the ring.  Attractive head, good reach of neck, level topline, good turn of stifle.  Unfortunately didn’t put his heart into showing himself off to advantage today.

Two very nice dogs whose progress I shall watch with interest.

3.  Short’s Glenchess Black Tie

ND (5, 1a)

1.  Weinberger & Poile’s Correnie Escapade.  Outgoing light red with good outline.  Attractive head and expression, good mouth, strong rear.  Moved and showed well.  Still very immature but liked his overall appearance.

2.  Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Rusty Leaf

3.  Weedall’s Clairvona Venetian Mask

PGD (8)

1.  Ward’s Vanajam Halloween.  Well constructed light red with good head.  Good reach of neck, straight topline which he kept while on the move.  Best mover in the class.  Showed all the time.

2.  Croyman’s Pinetop Fyn of Croyanda.  Liked his type and size.  Lovely head and expression, shown in full coat.  Outgoing personality.  Moved well behind.  Showed well.

3.  Weinberger’s Correnie Altissimo

LD (6, 1a)

1.  Thompson’s Castleline Star Trooper.  Well proportioned grey brindle of good size.  Typical head with keen expression.  Coat short but of good quality.  Moved well and steadily front and rear.  Showed well.

2.  Keeves & Bennett’s Vanajam Amulet with Maxiveek.  Most attractive wheaten brindle with lovely head and expression, in excellent coat and condition.  Not a small dog, but balanced.  Moved well.  Just preferred the size of 1.

3.  Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Tidy Shoes

OD (3, 1a)

Two very nice dogs

1.  Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Loaded Dice.  Grey with the most beautiful outline, good masculine head with keen expression,  good reach of neck flowing into well laid-back shoulders, level topline, tail right on top.  In fabulous condition, this dog oozes personality.  In the challenge for BIS he was just “raring to go” and possibly needed a bigger ring to show his movement off to best advantage.  RBIS

2.  Shorter & Nuttall’s Spawyche Elizabethan Jet.  I just loved this dark grey brindle.  Smaller than 1. but beautifully proportioned.  Lovely head with that true Cairn expression, straight topline, strong quarters.  So attractive and appealing.  Just lost out on front movement today.  RBD

SBD (1)

1.  Ramsden’s Cairngold Sparticus.  Very nicely balanced dark red brindle.  Typical head and expression.  Well presented.  Moved OK.  Was unfortunate to be up against such strong opposition in his previous class.

MPB (13, 3a)

What a lovely class.  Some very nice exhibits had to go unplaced.

1.  Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Coaldust.  Dark red brindle with good head and typical expression.  Good reach of neck, well laid back shoulders, straight topline, correct tailset.  Moved well front and rear.  Very sound.  Showed well.  BP

2.  Harrison & Formosa’s Carradine Echo.  Well-presented attractive red brindle with good head.  Straight topline, correct tailset, well angulated rear.  Moved well.  Just lost out to 1. on maturity today.

3.  Fyfe’s Andrum Love in a Mist

PB (8, 3a)

1.  Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Coral.  Nicely proportioned extrovert red.  Good neck, well placed shoulders, strong quarters.  Well bodied.  Moved and showed well.

2.  Felters & Rumens Andrum Lemon Meringue.  Very pretty cream baby who was unlucky to meet such strong opposition in the last class.  Sweet expression, good quality full coat.  Very feminine.  Moved very steadily in this class for one so young.

3.  Clairvona Victorian Ice

JB (7, 1a)

1.  Harrison & Formosa’s Spawyche Forever Amber at Carradine.  Attractive red with good reach of neck, level topline, correct tailset. good bend of stifle.  Best mover in the class.

2.  Hughes Spawyche Dawn Chorus at Gyncairn.  Most attractive eye-catching wheaten with really lovely head and expression.  Good quality coat, beautiful outline.  A picture standing in the class.  Showed so well for her handler.  Close decision but just preferred movement of 1. today.

3.  Confue’s Anjofra Nutty Tart

MB (4, 1a)

1.  Braybrook’s Cloverbrook Cute N Clever.  Wheaten with pretty head, good reach of neck, straight topline.  Coat well past its best.  Moved OK.

2.  Mears’ Glenmear Martine.  Still not yet 9 months old and very much a baby.  Pretty head with feminine expression, very good coat.  Needs to strengthen a bit on the move but she is still very immature.  To be critical I personally would prefer a little more length of leg.  Promising.

3.  Parker-Tucker’s Uniquecottage Brittle

NB (5)

1.  Hewitt’s Vanajam Touch of Gold of Littleacorn.  Nicely balanced red with attractive head and expression.  Good length of leg, straight topline, correct tailset.  Well presented.  Moved very well.

2.  Harrison & Formosa’s Carradine Miss Fudge.  Red, not as mature as 1.  Good topline, well angulated front and rear.  Moved OK.

3.  Weedall’s Clairvona Victorian Ice

PGB (15, 6a)

1.  Weaver’s Copseleaze Little Gem.  Wheaten brindle of good proportions.  Good quality coat, well presented.  Good length of neck and layback of shoulders, strong rear quarters.  Well ribbed.  Moved soundly.

2.  Osborns’ Tweslam Dot Com.  Red brindle with straight topline and correct tail set.  Very good coat.  Another sound mover.  Just preferred the head of 1.

3.  Turnbull’s Tribannon Destiny of Bedrule

LB (9, 3a)

1.  Firth & Jones’ Cairngold Charcoal.  Very smart dark red brindle with lovely outline.  Good reach of neck, straight topline, well angulated hind quarters enabling her to move with drive.  Very outgoing and a real show girl.  RBB

2.  Buttress’s Uniquecottage Gold Tilly.  Very attractive red with lovely head and expression.  In good coat.  Nice outline, well sprung ribs, strong quarters.  Moved well.  In complete rapport with her handler.  Never stopped showing.

3.  Hooton’s Penticharm Burning Desire

OB (4, 1a)

1.  Dolan’s Rossarden Glen Moira.  Very smart, beautifully presented grey, shown in top condition.  Attractive head with typical Cairn expression, good neck, well placed shoulders, good depth and spring of rib, strong loin, good length of leg, level topline, well carried tail.  Moved well and steadily. BIS

2.  Weinberger’s Correnie Keep My Secret.  Very feminine red brindle with sweet expression.  Very nice outline, good length of leg, moved well.

3.  Fyfe’s Andrum Lady Penelope

SBB (3, 1a)

1.  Turnbull’s Tribannon Destiny of Bedrule.  Well made wheaten in full coat.  Good neck and shoulders.  Well sprung ribs.  Moved OK but could probably do better on a looser lead as she was pulling against her handler today.

2.  Purvis’s Wilsummer Sea Lavender.  Dark red brindle.  Nice size and type.  Moved OK.  Coat just past its best.  She lacked enthusiasm today so didn’t show herself to advantage.
