BEST OF BREED: JONES' PENTICHARM CELTIC PRINCESS

On the positive side I think our Cairns are moving with more freedom nowadays.  On the negative side, I was disappointed to find so many with such hard expressions, due to the fact that the eyes  were the of the wrong shape - too round, and instead of 'peaty pools' in colour they had a ring of a different colour surrounding the eye - best described as 'owl eyes'.  I now fear that this may become the norm.

Minor Puppy Dog (6,2)

!st: Confue's Anjofra Bang on the Door.  9 month bright red, well grown for age, good head and expression, eyes of correct colour and shape.  Well placed ears and very good mouth.  Coat just going.  Moved well.

2nd: Berrecloth's Sybster Sopohora.  8 1/2 month grey brindle, smaller pattern.  Well constructed head, good mouth, eyes, coat and topline.  Strode out.  Very typical.

3rd: Peers' Tweedisle Chasing Vikings.

Puppy Dog (4,1)

1st: Braybrook's Cloverbrook Loaded Dice.  11 month grey brindle.  Very good head, everything correct.  Moved well fore and aft.  In good coat and condition.  Very good showman, promising.

2nd: Birch's Kinkim Wattluq.  11 month wheaten brindle.  Excellent mouth, good eye colour, deep stop, well placed ears.  Showed well.  I liked the flow of neck into shoulders but felt the front action needed to settle when viewed in profile.  Promising.

3rd: Templeton's Larchlea If Looks Could Kill.

Junior Dog (7,1)

1st: Catto's Birselaw Billy Fury.  Wheaten, beautiful masculine typical head with small ears.  Coat and body in tip top condition.  Moved well and showed all out to win CC in hot competition.  Personifies a Cairn Terrier of the highest quality.

2nd: Weinberger's Correnie Altissimo.  Another with a well constructed head with desired expression, good mouth, eye shape and colour, small ears , level topline with good tailset.  Moved and showed well.  Not as mature in body as 1st. close up.

3rd: Roberts' Cannwood Augurey.

Postgraduate Dog (12,3)

A most difficult class to judge with several refusing to show.

1st: Keeves and Bennett's Vanajam Amulet with Maxiveek.  Wheaten brindle, well made dog who held his topline well on the move.  Pleasing skull, correctly placed eyes and ears.  Good textured profuse coat that was not at its best.  Showed well.

2nd: Chambers' Honelyn Superman; Grey brindle, smaller dog with typical head and expression.  Level topline, sound mover, carried his tail proudly at first but settled as the class progressed.

3rd: Towers' Deneland Just William.

Limit Dog (7,1)

1st: Confue's Anjofra Golf Papa Lima.  Wheaten with a very nice head and typical expression.  Excellent mouth.  Presented in very good order.  Good bone and level topline, sound unexaggerated mover.  Felt he could have moved like that all day long.

2nd: Birch's Kinkim Kenza Ruffin Too.  masculine red brindle.  Very good mouth, correct eye colour and ear placement.  Pleasing strong outline carried well on the move, showy.  Moved well.

3rd: Shorter and Nutall's Spawyche Elizabethan Jet.

Open dog (6,2)

1st: Wall's Shearwater Cae de Sonhas.  Dog of Dreams, as indeed he has proved to be.  Excellent head with desired expression, well boned straight legs with good feet.  Level topline carried well, strode out to win this class.  A worthy champion.  RCC.

2nd: Harrison and Formosa's Carradine Toblerone.  Extrovert showman who demands attention in his bearing in the ring.  Most fluent of movers.  Handles very well on the table.  A difficult decision between these two excelling in different ways.  I thought Cae de Sonhas had the edge in head and expression.

3rd: Cameron's Ch. Stryveling Ivanhoe.

Minor Puppy Bitch (13,2)

1st: Brown's Bencana Crystal Clear.  7 months dark brindle, well grown for age.  Pleasing head with desired eye colour and shape, good mouth, straight front, balanced body.  Strode out well.  In very short coat and hardly any furnishings.  Good showgirl if a little raw looking at present.  Promising.

2nd: Weinberger's Corrennie Keep Your Promise, 7 months.  Very similar in size to 1st and in equally short coat.  The framework is there, all she needs now is to mature in body.  Not as positive in movement as 1st.  Showed well.

3rd: Peers' Tweedisle Chasing Rainbows.

Puppy Bitch (3,1)

1st: Hughes' Spawyche Dawn Chorus at Gyncairn.  Feminine wheaten brindle, well constructed body with a good flow of neck into shoulders.  Pleasing head and expression.  Showed well and moved fluently, keeping her body shape.  Best Puppy.

2nd: Short's Glenchess Silver Lining.  Wheaten brindle.  Feminine outlook, very hard coat hence lacking in head furnishings.  Moved and showed well.

Junior Bitch (7)

1st: Weaver's Copsleaze Little Gem.  Aptly named free moving wheaten brindle.  Very pretty head with typical expression, eyes correct in both colour and setting.  Good coat, showed well.  Not a big one, but nicely balanced.

2nd: West's Cairngold Constantina with Junetta.  Classy bitch with strong outline, good head and mouth, dark eyes.  In good coat and condition, front not quite as firm as 1st.

3rd: Jeffreys' Sandaig Suilean Dubh.

Postgraduate Bitch (15,6)

1st Jones' Penticharm Celtic Princess.  Pretty, feminine wheaten brindle of high quality.  Excellent well proportioned head, deep stop, good mouth and eye, balanced body.  Moved with ease and style to win this good class.  Excellent showgirl.  CC and BOB.

2nd: Firth's Cairngold Charcoal.  Dark brindle.  Feminine head with varmity expression., dark eyes, good mouth, small ears.  Flowing body lines, good tailset.  Moved well with plenty of animation.  Typical.

3rd: Evans' Stradivarius Scots Suite.

Limit Bitch (11,2)

1st: Moseley's Spawyche Elizabethan Anna.  Dark brindle.  Quality exhibit, very well constructed, typy and sound on the move with perfect footfall.  In excellent order throughout.  Great showgirl.  RCC.

2nd: Longdin's Wellingley What Now.  Dark Brindle.  Smaller bitch but nicely balanced throughout.  One of the best headed bitches, loving yet naughty expression.  Dark eyes, good mouth.  Well presented, showed all out - typical.

3rd: Dolan's Glenrood Forever Beauty.

Open Bitch (5)

A quality class, all were winners.

1st: Phillips' Sarachelle Just Daisy at Jaeva.  A most pleasing exhibit.  Well formed head with wicked expression, dark eye of correct shape.  Clean well placed shoulders enabling her to reach well forward without exaggeration, driving rear movement.  Presented in superb order apart from too much hair removed at the base of her tail.  If this were rectified she could go even further.  Not an easy bitch to show.

2nd: Weinberger's Corrennie Unforgettable.  Another top quality bitch.  Lovely head and true expression.  In very good all round condition.  I have seen her cover the ground with more propulsion - that was on grass - today her action was more deliberate - hence my deciding factor.

3rd: Catto's Birselaw Bobby Sox.
